NFL Week 11 Picks: Latest Odds and Top Experts' Predictions from Around the Web

Nate LoopNov 20, 2015

The Jacksonville Jaguars earned a second straight win in yet another sluggish Thursday night contest for the NFL, defeating the Tennessee Titans 19-13. Some of the brightest spots of the game were the uniforms, with the Titans' all-baby-blue ensemble resembling a kid's footie pajamas, while the Jags' all-gold everything outfit was hard on the eyes, and looked like Midas' touch was just a bit off on that uniform.

Even brighter than the uniforms is the Jaguars' future, as the win keeps them right in the thick of the chase for a division championship and a playoff spot.

You read that correctly. The AFC South is this year's worst collection of NFL teams. The Jags are now 4-6 on the year, while Houston and Indianapolis are up top at 4-5. Both of those teams are starting backup signal-callers in Week 11, which means Jacksonville has a decent chance of keeping pace with at least one of its division foes.

A Few Week 11 Replacements

Case Keenum Makes His Case for St. Louis

Nick Foles came to St. Louis in a high-profile trade this summer, signed a three-year deal, quarterbacked through the swift rise of rookie sensation Todd Gurley and yet he won't make it to Thanksgiving as the Rams starter this year.

Case Keenum gets the call in Week 11 against the hardest-luck team in the NFL, the Baltimore Ravens. The Rams are 4-5, three games back of Arizona in the NFC West and two games out of a wild-card spot.

For a team with a talented defense and a strong running game, the switch to Keenum represents a Hail Mary of sorts for coach Jeff Fisher, who could be coaching for his job with the Rams treading water. Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, at least one coach thinks the Rams are close to putting it all together on offense:

The fourth-year Keenum already has quite a few starts under his belt. Playing for the Houston Texans, he saw starting action in eight games in 2013 and two more in 2014. He's thrown 11 TDs and eight interceptions in his career, completing a mediocre 55.2 percent of his passes and averaging just 6.65 yards per throw.

Baltimore could be a fairly favorable opportunity for him. The Ravens rank 26th in the league in net passing yards allowed, and QBs collectively have a strong 101.4 passer rating against them this season, per ESPN.com.

Overall, Keenum has played like a spot starter, so don't expect him to light up the scoreboard. It sounds like he's planning on keeping things relatively simple against Baltimore.

"I try to find the open guy, try to get the ball out of my hands and into the fast guys' hands," Keenum said, per R.B. Fallstrom of the Associated Press (via FoxSports.com). "That tends to work better when I'm not holding it."

With the talented Gurley in the backfield providing him a solid foundation, Keenum might be able to take advantage of some run-focused fronts with eight men in the box. The speedy Tavon Austin can exploit some mismatches, and tight end Jared Cook is a vastly underutilized player.

Baltimore is not a very good team overall, so Keenum doesn't have to do too much to get a crack at a few more starts this year. He doesn't even have to outperform Foles. All Keenum needs to do is win the game and not look like a fool doing it.

Brock Osweiler Steps in For Peyton Manning

DENVER, CO - NOVEMBER 15: Quarterback Brock Osweiler #17 of the Denver Broncos looks for a receiver against the Kansas City Chiefs at Sports Authority Field at Mile High on November 15, 2015 in Denver, Colorado. The Chiefs defeated the Broncos 29-13. (P

Taking over for a legend is never easy. Doing it midseason? Even less so. When it's your first career start too? Best of luck.

Brock Osweiler will take over for an injured and ineffective Peyton Manning in Week 11. Of all the quarterback changes due this week, Osweiler's is likely to command the most attention.

Per ESPN Stats & Info, just playing in the first quarter of an NFL game will be an entirely new experience for him:

The towering 6'7" signal-caller was adequate in Week 10, thrust into action after Manning threw four interceptions against division rival Kansas City. He'll be playing in hostile territory against a Chicago team that should be playing with a bit of swagger after two strong wins against San Diego and St. Louis over the past two weeks.

Osweiler is an athletic, mobile quarterback. Denver's opponents only have footage of the statuesque Manning to look at on this year's game film. Moving him out of the pocket could make for an interesting new wrinkle to the Broncos attack, per NFL.com's Kevin Patra:

"

In relief of Manning in Week 10, Osweiler displayed the mobility and athleticism to run Kubiak's bootleg game and can get away from tacklers in the pocket -- when Manning generally turtles. His big arm should also allow theBroncos to stretch the field more frequently. The major questions about Osweiler regard his decision making and mental, in-game adjustments to defenses.

"

Osweiler's mobility should complement a run game that has struggled for much of the year but has potential with Ronnie Hillman leading the way. Hillman has had a difficult time picking up yards with any consistency in recent weeks, though he still averages a robust 4.9 yards per carry on the season.

As for his targets, the health of Emmanuel Sanders is a major concern. Sanders was essentially a decoy in Week 10 and was limited in practice Thursday with ankle and finger injuries, per DenverBroncos.com

Osweiler's still fortunate to have the likes of Vernon Davis and Demaryius Thomas catching passes for him, but a limited or absent Sanders would ostensibly make life much more difficult for him in Week 10.

T.J. Yates Looks to Deliver Houston a Third Straight Victory

T.J. Yates has already made himself a major enemy of the Cincinnati Bengals in his minimal playing time in the NFL. He beat them in the 2011 regular season, then later that same season in the playoffs and came in for a concussed Brian Hoyer on Monday night to hand Cincinnati its first loss of the season in a 10-6 Texans triumph.

Yates threw the only touchdown of the game late in the fourth quarter, which is worth revisiting if only for the brilliant catch from DeAndre Hopkins, as captured by the NFL:

No doubt about it, Yates owns the Bengals, and he'll get a chance to make a foe out of another team in the New York Jets on Sunday. Per John McClain of the Houston Chronicle, Yates is set for the start in Week 11 as Hoyer's concussion proved to be a very serious matter indeed:

The Jets are a nasty opponent for Yates to face. Houston's best offensive strategy this season has been launching the football in Hopkins' general direction and letting him do the rest. However, Hopkins will face the league's best corner in Darrelle Revis, meaning Yates will have to look elsewhere to move the ball.

Nate Washington and Cecil Shorts III are both healthy and capable wideouts. Neither player did much on Monday, but both are capable of providing solid options in the passing game. Shorts has three games with at least six catches this year, while Washington has popped up for a pair of 100-yard efforts.

It's not an intimidating group unless Hopkins can get away from Revis Island. Even then, the New York Daily News' Manish Mehta doesn't think the Jets have much to fear Sunday:

"

On a 10-point fear factor scale, T.J. Yates registers a solid 1.5.

Maybe a 2.0 on a good day.

For all the recent criticism heaped on the Jets defense, there is this sobering truth about the next opponent: Their quarterback stinks.

Todd Bowles’ team isn't exactly facing Dan Pastorini or Warren Moon in the heart of Texas on Sunday. The 4-5 Houston Texans, like the rest of the AFC South, don’t strike fear in anyone. Yates, the journeyman third-stringer thrust into the starting lineup after Brian Hoyer suffered a concussion on Monday night, isn’t scaring anyone.

"

Supporting Mehta's argument is word that Houston is apparently paring down its playbook for Yates.

"Me and Coach [Bill] O'Brien and Coach [George] Godsey talked already this week of plays that I'm comfortable with, plays I've run in the weeks past and stuff, trying to put together a game plan I'm comfortable with," Yates said, per CBSSports.com.

The Jets have allowed 15 touchdowns and picked off 10 passes this year. With Arian Foster out for the year, Yates doesn't have the luxury of a strong running game to carry him through this contest. He'll have to hope Houston can contain a struggling Jets attack while winning the game with a few well-placed passes.
