Thursday Night Football Week 11: TV Schedule, Live Stream for Titans vs. Jaguars

Chris RolingNov 19, 2015

A showdown between teams with a combined five wins going into Week 11 doesn't sound like the most attractive thing the NFL could roll out on Thursday Night Football, but the Tennessee Titans visiting the Jacksonville Jaguars provides a serious glimpse at the future.

Sensational rookie quarterback Marcus Mariota leads the Titans into hostile territory under the watchful eye of interim head coach Mike Mularkey, who knows a thing or two about the Jaguars after leading the team for a season back in 2012.

The hosts have a budding wealth of talent surrounding young quarterback Blake Bortles, too, with coach Gus Bradley's rebuilding plan going as expected.

Rolling Out the New

Thursday and beyond is all about the future for the Titans, as it's been for the past few weeks.

Mariota looks great under center when healthy, having completed 65.6 percent of his passes for 1,795 yards and 13 touchdowns to six interceptions. The offense is trying to work in big-bodied rookie wideout Dorial Green-Beckham as well after the initial regime brought him along at a snail's pace.

ESPN's Ed Werder provided context on what Tennessee's new coach wants from his high-upside rookie:

DGB doesn't have much of a choice but to see more playing time with Justin Hunter on his way to injured reserve.

Also perhaps ready to step into a major workload? Rookie back David Cobb, according to Jim Wyatt of the team's official website:

Cobb hasn't played much this season, but it's time for the Titans to discover if they have something in a backfield that has otherwise mustered only 877 yards and five scores this year.

What better time to take a serious look at the future than against a defense letting up an average of 28.3 points per game?

Full Steam Ahead

It's no secret the Jaguars have some work to do on the defensive side of the football, but it's hard to knock the team too much for the efforts there when it had to send high-profile rookie Dante Fowler Jr. to injured reserve before the season even started.

The offense has compensated, with Bortles having thrown 19 touchdowns to 11 interceptions despite suffering 28 sacks. Rookie back T.J. Yeldon behind him has been great with 531 yards and a score, good for a 4.0 yards-per-carry average.

It's at wideout where Jacksonville continues to show the most promise, though:

Sprinkle in the fact that offseason addition Julius Thomas has 15 grabs for 139 yards and a score in limited playing time due to injury, and it's not hard to see what Jacksonville wants to accomplish in the near future.

The Jaguars have scored 20 or more points six times this year and are winners in two of their last three outings, something linebacker Paul Posluszny wants to see the team keep going to help pave the way for the future, according to the Associated Press (via USA Today).

"It's not like this everywhere," Posluszny said. "If we want to keep this, at some point we need the results on the field. We have to win. We need to realize that this environment is a special, special thing, and we need to do everything we can to protect it."

To keep on this trajectory, the offense will once again have to carry the defense at home.

Prediction

Any way it's sliced, Jacksonville enters this one as the better team.

Tennessee has struggled in most games this year, the exception being wins over miserable NFC South opponents. Tennessee has to lean on rookies for production, which is never a good approach to take on the road underneath the bright lights of prime-time football.

When the Titans can protect Mariota, the offense is explosive, but those occurrences are few and far between. It will be the Jaguars putting on the offensive show Thursday, odd as it sounds, especially as the Titans continue to lose key defensive pieces such as cornerback Jason McCourty, who hit injured reserve alongside Hunter.

Look for the Jaguars to pull away and then ride a Yeldon-led ground game to a sloppy win.

Prediction: Jaguars 27, Titans 14
