Potential Eva Marie and Nia Jax Pairing Reminiscent of Classic WWE Team

In between the crowning of new tag team champions and an explanation for Samoa Joe's heel turn, the November 11 episode of NXT featured an intriguing look at a potential pairing that could rock the Divas division in WWE's developmental brand to its core.

Just prior to Nia Jax's squash match victory over Deonna, she was approached in the backstage area by Eva Marie. The star of Total Divas appeared to have wanted to talk business with the dominant new star.

While brief, the confrontation suggests that a mutually beneficial pairing may be in the works between the two relative newcomers to NXT.

When looking at the personalities and in-ring styles of Eva and Nia, one cannot help but reminisce about the days of Shawn Michaels and Diesel's on-air pairing during the mid-1990s.

Back then, Michaels was the charismatic star in need of backup for those moments when he ran his mouth and got himself in trouble. Diesel was that backup—a bodyguard, if you will. The pairing helped both men. After all, it was not until Big Daddy Cool made his debut that Michaels really picked up steam and became one of the truly elite stars in WWE.

And as the silent muscle who tore through the competition, Diesel got over with the audience, eventually leading to a big babyface run and feud with his former charge.

That same dynamic exists between the All Red Everything Diva and the seemingly indestructible being that is Nia Jax.

Eva Marie certainly has charisma, there is no denying that. She carries herself like a star but does not have the in-ring ability at this point to really be taken seriously as a threat to Bayley and the NXT Women's Championship. Enter Jax, who has the solid foundation of a quality in-ring performer but has yet to display the necessary charismatic traits to really excel in both NXT and, later, WWE.

As the yapping Diva who has no problem talking about how great she is, without necessarily backing it up between the ropes, Eva Marie could earn more traditional heel heat by hiding behind her new muscle.

Similarly, Jax can benefit from a crowd heat perspective by being the emphasis for Eva's success. It is no secret that fans despise the reality television star, so being the person most responsible for her capturing the women's title from Bayley would not only firmly establish The Rock's cousin as a heel, it would help her elicit some honest-to-goodness heel heat to go along with her dominant in-ring persona.

Social media discussed the potential pairing Wednesday night, with some expressing intrigue over the pairing and others recognizing it for what it is: the latest development in Eva's road to the women's title.

Prior to debuting on television, Jax teamed with Eva Marie at live events across Florida, so there is definitely familiarity and experience there. How it plays out on television and whether the NXT Universe accepts the pairing as a credible act in the Divas division is the most pressing question.

The more Eva Marie works with talented and experienced Divas, the better she will get as a worker. And the more Nia Jax has the opportunity to work on her character development and at the same time hang around the very charismatic and confident Eva Marie, the more her on-screen persona will benefit.

Most importantly, NXT will be better off, not unlike WWE was when the Michaels-Diesel pairing spawned two legitimate stars to help replace the relics from generations past. 

The Divas Revolution in NXT will only remain a revolution if it can replace those stars who have been called up to Raw and SmackDown. An Eva Marie-Nia Jax terrible twosome will accomplish that nicely.
