Matt Camp's Fantasy Advice
Analysis

We're at that interesting point of the season where we have long-term evidence to support one valuation of a player, but often have to weigh that against recent hot streaks a player may be experiencing.
So let's take a closer look at some players who have gotten hot this week and decide if they will continue to have value or if they are sell-high candidates for fantasy owners.
It would appear the Drew Brees fantasy owners have known and loved for years has resurfaced. After throwing for an absurd 505 yards and seven touchdowns two weeks ago, all Brees did last week was throw for 387 yards and three scores. After having just one week of 20 or more fantasy points all season long, Brees has heated up once again.
Yes, the concerns about his downgrades in the passing game haven't gone away. But Brees has been one of the best quarterbacks in this league for years. That isn't just going to change because he had a slow start to this season.
Randall Cobb is another presumed elite fantasy player, but one who came into Sunday's game with a combined 12 points in his previous four contests. And then he emerged with 99 receiving yards and a score this past week.
Cobb was expected to be an elite fantasy option this season, especially when Jordy Nelson was lost for the year, but instead he's been rather inconsistent. In fact, the offense in general has been off-kilter, as head coach Mike McCarthy admitted after this week's loss to the Carolina Panthers, per Jason Wilde of ESPN.com:
"The one obvious component of our offense that is not where it needs to be [is], we’re not in a rhythm. That’s the result of it. We got into a hole there and came out in pretty much two-minute style offense the whole second half. [That] puts a huge stress on your protection unit, particularly your offensive line. We need to play better.
"
The Packers and Cobb are too good to remain in any sort of funk for long. Cobb may be one of the most valuable buy-low options in all of fantasy right now. Some owners may hold onto him for name value, but impatient owners may not be convinced he's worth holding onto, even after his most recent performance. Pounce on him now.
Demaryius Thomas is another player worth buying low on. He has just one touchdown reception on the year, but his 93 targets are fourth among wide receivers, suggesting an uptick in production is coming. The Broncos are always going to find a way to get him the ball, and the odds are they'll start doing a better job of doing so in the red zone. He's another player worth buying on now, even with Peyton Manning's diminished arm strength.

Finally, let's talk about two of the bigger surprises at the quarterback position, Derek Carr and Blake Bortles. Carr has 23 or more fantasy points in three straight games and is averaging 18.3 points per week. Bortles has 18 or more points in five of the last seven games and is averaging 18.1 points per contest. Is this sustainable?
Well, yes.
Both players have good wideouts, a very important note here. Carr has Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree, who are each having solid seasons. Bortles has Allen Robinson and Allen Hurns, who are both having surprisingly excellent seasons.
And both are on teams that generally have to score a lot of points to win. Oakland is giving up 26.4 points per week, 24th in the NFL. Jacksonville is giving up 29.4 points per week, 30th in the league. So yes, both quarterbacks are going to be throwing the ball a lot late in games.
One other thing to note about Carr—he's thrown just four interceptions this year. That's very impressive. While that not be sustainable, it suggests that he's playing really well at the position to this point. That makes him a viable QB1 going forward.
And both Carr and Bortles are players you should consider targeting in a trade if you want to play matchups at the position each week.
