Dion Lewis Injury Update: Patriots RB out for Season with Reported Torn ACL

Tyler ConwayNov 9, 2015

Dion Lewis' breakout 2015 season is over. The New England Patriots running back suffered a torn left ACL in Sunday's 27-10 win over Washington and will miss the remainder of the season, per Jim McBride of the Boston Globe.

Adam Caplan of ESPN noted that the Patriots placed Lewis on injured reserve after the news.

Lewis, 25, suffered a non-contact injury in the third quarter after making a 14-yard reception. While he was able to walk off the field on his own power, he did not return to the game.

LeGarrette Blount will handle a majority of the duties with Lewis injured. The former fifth-round pick broke out as an underneath fail-safe for Tom Brady, compiling 36 receptions for 388 yards and two touchdowns as a receiver. He also added 234 yards and two scores on the ground, averaging 4.8 yards per carry.

Chad Finn of Boston.com noted how Lewis came out of nowhere this season:

Fantasy football owners looking for a replacement for the receiving total may want to look at Brandon Bolden. Seldom used through the Patriots' first seven games, Bolden had three receptions for 27 yards and a score on Sunday, adding one 12-yard carry.

“Brandon’s been a valuable player for us,’’ said head coach Bill Belichick, per McBride. “I’m glad we have him.’’

Belichick tends to keep his plans at running back close to the vest, so the situation may change in a matter of days. For now, though, it appears Bolden will at least get a majority of the underneath work in passing situations.
