NFL Odds Week 9: Last-Minute Betting Guide, Spread and Over-Under Analysis
Preparing for a Sunday of football gambling is multi-tiered. First, you must realize there are three main ways to bet individual games. There are moneylines, or straight-up gambling on whether a team will win. There are also point spreads, in which you attempt to handicap how many points a team will win or lose by. Last is the over-under bet, where you guess how many points will be scored in a game.
Even then, it's not as easy as it sounds. Paying attention to what games opened at and where they currently stand can tell you a lot about who is betting on games between sharps and squares and where the majority of the money is.
We'll set you straight heading into Sunday morning football by running down how lines have changed, who the main injuries of the week are and what the weather looks like in every game in Week 9. From there, we'll also suggest a side in every spread this weekend, plus offer some quality over-under picks.

Over-Under Picks
3 of 5
Jacksonville Jaguars @ New York Jets: Over 42
This line is just too low. The Jacksonville Jaguars can score points; the problem is their offense has a lot of variance. Often, the Jags aren't allowed to punt because Blake Bortles threw an interception. The New York Jets can transition those turnovers into points. Three of their first four games hit at 41 total points, plus they had one 27-point game against the Colts, but I'm willing to take the odds on this one.
Atlanta Falcons @ San Francisco 49ers: Under 44
I don't trust these two teams to put together an offensive game. It's Blaine Gabbert versus Matt Ryan, who recently has been shooting his team in the foot. A few games ago, the Falcons scored 10 points in a win. This over assumes that Atlanta scores 26 points; the Falcons haven't scored that much in the past four games.
Chicago Bears @ San Diego Chargers: Over 49
Since the San Diego Chargers have been dinged up, they've allowed plenty of points, and Philip Rivers is still doing just enough to keep the team in games. Over the past five games, the totals have averaged around 54 points, with three going over 49 and the other two hitting 47 and 44. The Chargers can still score, but they're going to get scored on, too.

Injury Report
5 of 5
Jason Pierre-Paul, DE, Giants (Active)
One of the most talked-about defenders in 2015 hasn't even played a game in the regular season. Jason Pierre-Paul made big news when a fireworks accident resulted in an explosion and a severe injury to his hand. He's since signed a tender and is now active to play Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. If he can produce at half the rate he used, he'll greatly improve the Giants pass rush.
Jay Ajayi, RB, Dolphins (Active)
For my money, Jay Ajayi was one of the more underrated draft picks in the 2015 class. The Dolphins were able to steal him with the 149th overall pick after a medical red flag was highlighted on his scouting reports, likely resulting from an early-career knee injury while at Boise State. He's dealt with a hamstring issue while in Miami, but he's finally coming off the injured reserve list this week. After Jarvis Jones, he might be the most talented skill player the Dolphins have on the roster.
Matt Forte, RB, Bears (Out)
Initially, there was fear that a knee issue would keep Matt Forte out all season. It has since been confirmed that the running back will miss a game or two, but his season isn't over. Against the San Diego Chargers on Monday, Forte and his bum MCL will be in warm clothes on the sideline.
