Adam Jones Wins Marvin Miller Man of the Year at 2015 Players Choice Awards

Matt FitzgeraldNov 9, 2015

Baltimore Orioles center fielder Adam Jones put up his fifth consecutive season of hitting at least 25 home runs this season and has also been recognized for the exemplary standard he's set away from the field.

The MLB announced Jones as the 2015 recipient of the Marvin Miller Man of the Year award at the Players Choice Awards on Monday.

Each team nominates one player for the award, and this year, fans helped determine the winner between Jones and other worthy finalists in Miami Marlins second baseman Dee Gordon and Chicago White Sox pitcher David Robertson.

In addition to being a respected power hitter, the 30-year-old has shown tremendous range in the outfield as a four-time Gold Glove Award recipient. Just as he's trusted to have his teammates' backs as a defender on the diamond, his support for others extends beyond Oriole Park at Camden Yards.

Jones served as co-host of an inner-city youth baseball clinic in Baltimore following the city's civil unrest this past season and was active in multiple philanthropic organizations in the area. Those included the Boys and Girls Club of Baltimore, the nationally prominent Reviving Baseball in the Inner Cities (RBI) and the YMCA of Central Maryland.

Last year's Orioles team saw leadership figures such as Buck Showalter (American League Manager of the Year) and Dan Duquette take home prestigious hardware thanks to a surprise playoff berth. The 2015 club didn't make the postseason, but Jones' award is sure to mean as much, if not more, to him compared to his Gold Gloves.

With a number of years ahead of him, Jones has a chance down the road to join John Smoltz and Jim Thome as the only two-time winners of the Man of the Year award.
