Finn Balor Is Biggest Winner After WWE NXT Championship Main Event
After the NXT championship match main event on this week’s episode, one thing is abundantly clear: Finn Balor is the face of the brand and the biggest winner coming out of Wednesday’s chaos.
First and foremost, Balor walked away from a grueling and enthralling match against Apollo Crews with his NXT championship. That is the most important prize in the brand, and while he may not like how he retained the belt, Balor is undoubtedly happy he still has it in his possession.
From an in-ring perspective, Balor and Crews took each other to the limit and put on a show worthy of a championship match, regardless of when it took place. Everyone knew what the champion was capable of in the ring, but it was Balor’s ability and willingness to give Crews a chance to really show what he is made of that made this work so well.
Balor is not selfish, and allowing his challengers to look strong proves he knows the business.
Not only did Balor do his best to make Crews look like a top star, but he also managed to sell for Baron Corbin and make him look even more like a viable heel challenger in the future. While the WWE Universe may not like Corbin, Balor did his best to get Corbin over when he attacked him.
The selling didn’t stop there, though, as Balor continued to put over his foes. While the fans thought Samoa Joe was there to save his former friend, the heel turn was made even more impactful by the way the champion sold the shock and awe of the attack.
Balor is also the biggest winner coming out of this main event because he remains at the top of the card in one of the premier feuds ever put together in NXT. Samoa Joe is one of the biggest stars to ever grace the WWE’s developmental territory, and Balor is the face worthy of going head-to-head with him.
Samoa Joe is such a recognizable star that it’s hard to imagine any other face on the NXT roster being over enough to make the turn work. Only Balor has enough of a rapport with the crowd to actually have an unquestioned heel turn for Joe.
Moving forward, NXT is Finn Balor. He is the top star without a doubt, and will remain the focal point of the brand moving into the future. NXT officials have done a good job positioning him well, but Balor has a natural charisma and aura that resonates with wrestling fans.
When Balor comes up to the main roster, watch out WWE Universe.
