Davey Richards and Eddie Edwards Talk TNA Title Series, WWE NXT and More

Donald WoodNov 3, 2015

On their own, Davey Richards and Eddie Edwards are two of the most talented singles stars in the wrestling industry, but together, the duo forms The Wolves, one of the most decorated and unstoppable tag teams in recent memory.

The Wolves have won multiple championships with TNA Impact Wrestling, but on Wednesday’s episode of the flagship show on Destination America, Richards and Edwards will go one-on-one in the World Title Series tournament.

The two men will have to put friendship aside with the opportunity to advance in the championship tournament on the line.

Richards and Edwards recently spoke with Ring Rust Radio (quotes courtesy of the News of Delaware County's Joe Arcidiacono) about going head-to-head on Impact Wrestling, signing with TNA, wrestling for WWE’s NXT brand, the differences between Ring of Honor and TNA and so much more.

It is a truly unique opportunity for two tag team champions to get the chance to square off in a singles match while still holding the titles, but that is what the participants are willing to do for the chance at winning the company’s world heavyweight championship.

When asked about what it will be like locking horns with a friend and partner on Wednesday’s episode of Impact Wrestling, Richards spoke honestly:

"

We have done it before plenty of times and I am sure we will do it plenty of times. It’s all in the spirit of competition and there is a strong, mutual respect between us. At the end of the day, both of us want to be the best and there can be only one winner. So I look forward to it and it will be a great match.

"

Edwards also shared his feelings on the situation, saying, “We bring out the absolute best in each other and I know Davey does for me. Anything less than my best won’t get it done against an athlete like Davey. It’s going to be hard-hitting, intense, and we’re going to leave it all out in the ring.”

Even if you’re not a fan of TNA or have never watched Impact Wrestling, these are two former Ring of Honor world champions who strive to put on the best possible show. When they go against each other, anyone who considers themselves a true wrestling fan should be tuning in to see the hard-hitting action.

Before Richards and Edwards signed with TNA, the team made a stop in WWE’s NXT brand. As The American Pitbulls, the two competitors competed in a tryout with the company and created a serious buzz in the wrestling community.

While WWE didn’t sign them, the two men found a home almost instantly with TNA. When asked about their time at NXT and what the future holds for the duo and a possible run in WWE, Richards said the following:

"

It was great. They treated us really well there. It was long days, but very enjoyable days. Everything they said they were going to do they did do and they were very respectful. The facility there is absolutely amazing, and we got to work with Dusty Rhodes at the time. We would definitely entertain the thought of going back there, but we are very happy with TNA so I don’t see any reason to leave at this time.

"

Richards and Edwards have found immense success with TNA as five-time world tag team champions, but the possibility of a run in the WWE is intriguing. The men are two of the most talented wrestlers in the world, and they would be a great addition to the NXT roster, or any other roster in the world.

Luckily for Impact Wrestling, The Wolves are a cornerstone of its brand.

As mentioned before, though, Richards and Edwards have found serious singles success, and each was at the top of the Ring of Honor pecking order in the past. When asked about the differences between TNA and ROH, Edwards explained:

"

With ROH, you are going to have those longer matches that you won’t see week to week on TNA. Styles wise, TNA is quicker and flashier, where ROH is more hard hitting. You can’t go wrong with either one, so for wrestling fans in general just watch them both.

"

Regardless of your opinion on Impact Wrestling and where the company is heading, there is no doubt that The Wolves are one of the main reasons hardcore fans tune in every week and a highlight of each episode.

Whether the two men are beating one of the top teams in the world or standing toe-to-toe in the World Title Series, Richards and Edwards have the talent and the desire to put on memorable matches every time they step inside the ring.

The future is bright for The Wolves. As the TNA world tag team champions, few teams compare to the duo, and there are even fewer who have the ability to knock them off their perch.
