NFL Trade Rumors: Latest Buzz on Eric Weddle, Joe Thomas and More

Mike NorrisNov 3, 2015

The NFL trade deadline ends at 4 p.m. ET Tuesday, and the rumors won't stop until the final seconds tick away.

One former Pro Bowler was traded Monday when the San Francisco 49ers shipped tight end Vernon Davis to the Denver Broncos. More players could be on the move before the deadline as teams face the reality their season is all but lost and they must become sellers.

Here's an in-depth look at some players who could be on their way out of town as the hours count down:

Cleveland Listening to Offers for Thomas

Left tackle Joe Thomas has eight Pro Bowl appearances on his resume, but he's also 30 years old and making more than $8 million per year. He doesn't become a free agent until after the 2018 season. However, the Browns are 2-6 and would have to be open to at least listening to offers. Vic Lombardi of Denver's 104.3 The Fan verified the Broncos have shown interest while answering a question on Twitter:

Thomas apparently isn't the only Browns offensive lineman who could be on the move. Ian Rapoport of NFL.com reported the Browns have engaged in multiple discussions with teams regarding Thomas and center Alex Mack, a former Pro Bowler himself.

Thomas' name has been floating around so much the past week, it almost seems inevitable he will be traded. Cleveland once again has become sellers, and the Broncos have shown they are willing to make a move. Anything that could benefit Peyton Manning would be a good thing.

Denver got rid of two sixth-round draft picks, and gained a seventh, in the Davis trade. It would have to be willing to part with some earlier-round picks to snag Thomas but at this point, it makes perfect sense.

At one point this season, the Broncos were shifting linemen in and out of the game, which is odd considering a line usually needs to stay as consistent as possible. The line had its best game of the season in Week 8 against Green Bay, and Manning noticed, per Jarrett Bell of USA Today.

“This doesn’t guarantee anything,” Manning cautioned, “but it proves what we are capable of when we execute.”

General manager John Elway usually goes after what he wants, and look for him to get a deal done to bring in Thomas.

Chargers May Be Shopping Weddle

Eric Weddle has played all 130 games of his NFL career with the San Diego Chargers. However, could his tenure be coming to a close?

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk was told by a Chargers spokesman that Weddle isn't going anywhere, despite the fact the 2-6 Chargers aren't either. He reported the spokesman said there is "absolutely no truth" to rumors San Diego is shopping Weddle.

But Florio writes that it's likely San Diego is at least keeping its options open: "PFT’s original source on the story reiterates that the Chargers have indeed been shopping Weddle. And why shouldn’t they be?"

There are at least four teams possibly interested in the 30-year-old, who is set to become a free agent at the end of the season, per Bleacher Report's Jason Cole:

It would make sense for the 2-6 Chargers to ship Weddle off to a contender and snag a draft pick out of the deal.

No More Curry in Philly?

Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Vinny Curry had been on the uptick two seasons prior to 2015. After a rookie 2012 season where he played in only six games, Curry registered four sacks in 2013. Last year, he upped the number to nine and forced four fumbles. However, 2015 has been a different story as Curry has tallied just one sack, although he does have 11 quarterback hurries in 163 snaps.

Per Mark Eckel of NJ.com, his lack of production could be based on the fact he doesn't fit the Eagles defensive scheme:

"

Curry is still not starting for the Eagles and generally plays only on passing downs, which leads to his 35 percent or so of playing time. It's also obvious the pass-rushing end is a better fit in a 4-3 defense than he is in the Eagles' 3-4 scheme and will likely sign with one (did someone say, Giants?) next offseason.

"

The 27-year-old is in the final year of his contract and is only carrying a price tag slightly north of $750,000. Cole reported Monday his days in Philly could be numbered.

A move could certainly happen, but it's hard to believe the Eagles could get much for a guy who has played sparingly, has an expiring contract and is in between positions. Look for Curry to stay put and test the open market at the end of the season.
