Twitter Reacts to Tottenham Hotspur vs. Aston Villa in the Premier League

Joe GallagherNov 2, 2015

Believe it or not, there is more to the Premier League than Jose Mourinho, as Tottenham Hotspur hosted Aston Villa in Monday night's Premier League match at White Hart Lane.

It was one year to the day since Harry Kane's late winner pinched the points in last year's fixture at Villa Park.

Villa went into the match four points from the relegation zone, while Spurs could move fifth and within touching distance of the Champions League places with a win.

Spurs have been in ominous form of late...

...which is quite the contrast to their opponents...

Opta brought us the insight we simply had to know about Monday night football...

Villa had earlier announced the appointment of Remi Garde as their new manager following Tim Sherwood's sacking. But despite the positive air of change around the club, Villa just couldn't get it right...

Kevin MacDonald took his place on the bench, but not everyone was prepared...

Needless to say, most people were predicting a Tottenham victory...

And those views might have felt well placed after three minutes...

Making a certain Frenchman wonder whether the ink had dried on that piece of paper he signed earlier...

But it gave us a fun stat about Mousa Dembele...

Spurs sat on their lead for the remainder of the first half, so fans decided instead to vent their frustrations at the likes of Jack Grealish's socks, Gaby Agbonlahor's anonymity and Kieran Richardson's hair...

Those on England watch were pleased when Dele Alli made it 2-0 on the stroke of half-time...

Not that it came as any consolation to Villa fans...

The second half didn't exactly burst into life...

So it was time for a few "Garde" puns...

That was until, with 15 minutes to play, Leandro Bacuna struck the woodwork...

And seconds later Villa were, incredibly, back in it thanks to Jordan Ayew...

All of a sudden the visitors were in the hunt, and they had two substitutes to thank for it...

But their resurgence was halted in stoppage time when Harry Kane fired home to make the points safe for Spurs, the Englishman's slow start to the season becoming a distant memory...

Meanwhile, for Aston Villa and Remi Garde, the pain was back as they completed their worst start to a league season in their history...

Let's end by summing up the mood of Villa fans...
