Peterson Unsure If He Will Have MRI

Sunday, Dec. 20

Peterson ran for 63 yards despite missing significant time during his team's win, and Ben Goessling of ESPN.com passed along some quotes from the star running back in the aftermath:

"

Asked about the severity of the injury, Peterson said, "I really can't pinpoint it right now, but it was definitely an ankle sprain. I was able to get out and kind of get it loose, and I got loose enough after about the first series (of the third quarter) and was able to get back out there."

Peterson said he did not need X-rays, adding, "The bone and everything is OK." He said he wasn't sure if he would need an MRI.

Peterson Has Re-Emerged Among NFL's Top RBs After Lost 2014 Season

In his ninth NFL season, Peterson has shown no signs of slowing down. He came into Week 15 with 1,251 rushing yards for his seventh 1,000-yard campaign.

Making his on-field performance all the more impressive is the fact that Peterson is coming off a 2014 season in which he played just one game before being placed on the commissioner's exempt list. He also served a suspension that has since been overruled by a federal judge. The NFL placed him on the list and suspended him after he was arrested for beating his four-year-old son with a switch.

While the off-the-field behavior has turned Peterson into a source of controversy, the 30-year-old remains nearly as effective on the gridiron as he was during his prime. He will almost certainly be a Pro Bowler if the injury proves to be minor. Earlier this season, Peterson was nearly sidelined for a Week 7 contest against the Detroit Lions after getting sick on a plane and missed a few practices with a number of ailments.

“Part of the business,” Peterson said, per Craig Peters of Vikings.com. “Everybody gets beat up, and you need days like yesterday to kind of relax and recover, rejuvenate and let it rest.”
