Mets Set Franchise Record with 14 Home Runs in Postseason

The New York Mets' Daniel Murphy tied an MLB record Tuesday night in Game 3 of the National League Championship Series against the Chicago Cubs, homering in his fifth straight postseason game, then broke it Wednesday night in Game 4 with an eighth-inning blast.

Prior to Murphy's homer Wednesday, it was first baseman Lucas Duda and catcher Travis d'Arnaud who helped set a franchise record with a pair of home runs.

According to Ace of MLB Stats, d'Arnaud's blast was enough to push the Mets past their previous high for home runs in the postseason.  

Duda's 420-foot, three-run blast to center field against the Chicago Cubs' Jason Hammel was the 12th home run during the playoffs for the Mets, tying the team record. 

However, they weren't stopping there. Catcher Travis d'Arnaud added a solo blast of his own later in the first inning, surpassing the club record with 13, accomplishing the feat in just nine games. Seven innings later Murphy extended the record to 14. ESPN's Baseball Tonight tweeted that the Mets actually set another record with the two home runs.

The Mets finished off the sweep of the Cubs with an 8-3 victory and now await the winner of the American League Championship Series, where the Kansas City Royals currently lead the Toronto Blue Jays, 3-2.
