Week Three in College Football Starts The BCS Mess

Benny HsuSep 19, 2009

I keep hearing so many "what if situations" and it's only the the third week of college football.

  • What if Miami goes undefeated?
  • What if Cal beats USC and goes undefeated?
  • What if Texas goes undefeated?
  • What if everyone loses one game?
  • What if BYU goes....whoops. Take them out of the discussion.

So many different scenarios so early in the season it makes my head feel like I spun around ten times and tried to stand straight.

One bad game early in the season, takes your team out of the national championship picture. Unless, the teams ahead of you start dropping like zippers in a bathroom. Then the debates all come back again.

Personally, I hate it. I hate the way college football is set up. The BCS advocates will argue that this makes every game very important. However we know that it's not if you lose, but when you lose that makes a huge different if you're playing in the Orange Bowl or the Citrus Bowl.

Today showed that college football is never going to turn out perfectly as scripted. I think that's why we love it so much. The big upsets. The last second wins.

From that chaos comes the chaos when the all important BCS Polls come out later this season.

Every season, there is an argument for a playoffs. The fans would love it. I would love the one-and-done pressure of each game. A true champion will be settled on the field.

It's only week three but I guarantee by the end of the season, there's going to be some strong discussion on here who deserves to play in the Rose Bowl for all the glory.

This season is going not going to end with two clear cut schools to play for the championship. It's the BCS so it's about as trustworthy as Bernie Madoff. You can bet on this.
