Green Active for Week 11

Sunday, Nov. 22

The Chargers announced that Green was available to play against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Latest on Green's Practice Status

Friday, Nov. 20

The Chargers announced Green did not practice today.

Green Proving to Be Suitable Backup for Gates

Earlier this season, Green proved that he is able to carry the starting tight end duties during the absence of Antonio Gates, who was suspended for the first four games of the season. Although Gates returned and immediately found success, he too has been bothered by injuries this season after sitting out Week 7.

The fourth-year man recorded 304 yards and four touchdowns on 26 receptions entering Week 8. Prior to leaving against the Ravens, however, he recorded just one reception for 10 yards on one target.

Injuries have slowed Green down this season too, though. Toward the end of September, Green suffered his second concussion in as many weeks, according to Eric D. Williams of ESPN.com.

With a big 6'6", 240-pound frame, Green's athleticism is what helped make him become such a great target for quarterback Philip Rivers. But his blocking has been just as impressive, helping Rivers' other options make the plays needed to get the offense going.

The return of Gates certainly softened the blow of Green's injury as Rivers was reunited with his favorite target. But with the way Green has been playing, he could one day be Gates' successor as the Chargers' No. 1 tight end.
