WWE's Top Tweets, Instagram Photos and Viral Videos for Week of September 7

Of the lessons fans learned through WWE social media this week, none was more clear than this: Do not troll Kevin Owens.

Owens fired back at a few smart-mouthed members of the WWE Universe on Twitter, shutting them up in swift fashion. Apparently the precision and power of his strikes aren't limited to the ring.

The former NXT champ wasn't alone in entertaining folks online, though. Edge and Christian's latest kazoo performance, Seth Rollins' annoyance and The Rock's quick thinking highlighted the most shareable WWE content of the week.

We begin with the goofy duo that was key to the WWE tag team division during one of its golden ages.

Edge and Christian appeared on Steve Austin's podcast (subscription required) right after Monday's Raw aired. The tag team talked about its famous TLC matches, its post-wrestling lives and what they thought of today's wrestling squads. Of course, Stone Cold wouldn't let them go through a whole interview without making a song request.

Austin asked Edge and Christian to play his entrance music on kazoos. The result is one of the silliest bits of fun WWE fans witnessed all week:

Over the weekend, John Cena and Owens did battle at a house show in Hampton, Virginia. There looked to be a botched move when Cena's head crashed into the mat. F4WOnline reported that "Cena needed help getting up and out of the ring" afterward.

Cena took to Twitter afterward to offer one of his trademark messages of positivity. Owens made sure to insert himself into the conversation, taking credit for hitting him hard and knocking him down:

Combine that comment, his recent feud with Cena and the general disdain he has shown for the fan favorite onscreen, and it was inevitable that Cena supporters would take shots at him.

One tried to borrow Cena's catchphrase and soon found himself the butt of a joke:

Another decided to tell Owens that he would never measure up to Cena. Owens held no punches in his response:

It's clear that Owens is not be messed with.

If there was a WWE Twitter champion, he would have to be in the running for it, along with Dolph Ziggler and Big E. The New Day's powerhouse is one of the funnier Superstars, something that his Twitter followers are well aware of.

The New Day's growth into self-important, over-celebrating jerks has been one of the highlights of the year. The trio is hilariously annoying.

An Instagram picture taken before Seth Rollins was set to team with The New Day on Monday's Raw captures this quite well:

Rollins' defeated expression is perfect here.

It's one that he has had opportunity to practice with how often he has lost since becoming WWE champ. Monday's Raw added two more defeats to his resume. First, he lost to Ryback thanks to Sting distracting him. He followed it up with a loss in six-man action to close the show.

The Rock, despite his many successes in the ring, is no stranger to defeat himself.

The latest "5 Things" video recounted some surprising names to have bested him in the past. Losing to Austin or Brock Lesnar is nothing to be ashamed of. The same can't be said of falling to The Hurricane:

These days The Rock is busy making movies and hit TV shows and apparently saving a puppy. The Brahma Bull posted a shot of him holding two French bulldogs while standing soaked in a pool.

The Rock explained that his new dog didn't know how to swim, and he found that out the hard way. He wrote in the caption, "I take off into a full sprint, fully clothed, dive in the pool, swim to the bottom, rescue my brick, I mean BRUTUS and bring him back to the edge of the pool."

Fourteen years ago The Rock was front and center in a moment that remains the most powerful in SmackDown's history.

Just days after the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, WWE aired SmackDown, which was the first gathering of its size in the U.S. after the tragic events in New York. Superstars gathered on the entrance ramp. Lillian Garcia sang the national anthem

The show went on.

WWE remembered that moment with a succinct message and a photo sure to stir up memories for many:

Pro wrestling is often a trek into the ridiculous and a celebration of testosterone-fueled melodrama. It's sometimes hard to feel that an enterprise filled with masked little people and people dressed as hands is important.

On that night in 2001, though, SmackDown's opening proved to be a necessary source of catharsis.
