Giants Activate Johnson – Go For Sweep

The Giants’ dead and alive 2009 campaign continues tonight when they send Matt Cain to the hill to try and sweep the Rockies for the second straight home series.
Randy Johnson returns as a reliever after missing a couple of months with a shoulder problem. His presence should be a compelling one late in games. Jeremy Affeldt has been great this season but has shown some signs of wear in September. Johnson should provide a reliable alternative for late left handed relief that Alex Hinshaw had been unable to bring.
Still missing in action is top prospect Buster Posey, who has had just one at bat. Bengie Molina has caught a bit of fire and is currently riding a seven game hit streak. While Posey is receiving valuable playoff race experience, his bat could definitely help the worst offense still in contention for a postseason bid. He’s certainly a better option than the likes of Rich Aurilia, Fred Lewis, John Bowker and Eli Whiteside.
