Andre Ellington, David Johnson Post-Preseason Week 3 Fantasy Advice

Giving six different players a carry in a preseason game doesn't make it any easier to assess your running back situation, Arizona Cardinals.

Head coach Bruce Arians was generous with his playing time, getting Andre Ellington, David Johnson, Stepfan Taylor, Marion Grice, Robert Hughes and Kerwynn Williams on the field at various points. You know what Ellington will bring, so far more interesting was the performance of Johnson:

In standard 12-team leagues, Ellington is worth taking right around the fourth or fifth round as an RB2. As much as you want to get excited about the former Clemson Tiger, he still missed four games and averaged 3.3 yards a carry. Don't get burned by your own high expectations for the 26-year-old.

Ellington's continued use in Arizona's air attack is encouraging, however, and would make him more appealing in point-per-reception leagues, per Stats LLC's Tom Kessenich:  

You might be tempting fate a bit if you draft any other Cardinals running back. Who knows how things will look when the regular season arrives?

Chris Johnson, hampered by a hamstring injury this week, was missing among those half-dozen players to get a carry, and he'll likely play some role in the offense this year.

Unless you're in a deeper and/or keeper league, David Johnson probably isn't a player you want to target in your draft. Wait until the dust settles in Glendale, Arizona, and Arians provides a much better idea of his running back hierarchy. Then, you can determine whether Johnson is worth grabbing off the waiver wire or adding to your daily fantasy team.
