Markovic, 21, appeared in 19 Premier League games for Liverpool last season (11 starts), scoring two goals, adding an assist and earning a decent average match rating of 6.67 from WhoScored.com. But with attacking players like Philippe Coutinho, Adam Lallana, Roberto Firmino and Jordon Ibe ahead of him in the squad this year, Markovic was unlikely to get meaningful playing time.
At Fenerbahce, however, the attacking midfielder will get plenty of opportunities to crack the starting 11 and earn meaningful experience. The hope in Liverpool is that the experience will aid him when he returns to the club.
"Markovic still has a future here," Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers insisted on Friday, per James Pearce of the Liverpool Echo.
With more playing time under his belt, Markovic should return to the Reds a more seasoned and savvy player.
