Manchester United Transfer News: Latest Arjen Robben and Jonny Evans Rumours

Christopher SimpsonAug 28, 2015

Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben is the latest star player to be linked with Manchester United.

According to Colin Harvey of the Daily Star, Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf reported that a £73 million move for Robben is "in the pipeline."

The link with the Dutchman is the latest to be churned out of the rumour mill, which has gone into overdrive recently. As noted by Metro.co.uk's Sean Kearns, United have been linked to the likes of Neymar and Thomas Muller.

According to Bleacher Report's Chris Winterburn, United boss Louis van Gaal would not be drawn on his plans for the remainder of the transfer window:

Robben scored 19 goals and added nine assists in all competitions last season, and though United are fairly well-stocked in wide positions, the Netherlands international would offer a significant upgrade on their current options as well as increase their firepower up front.

However, the 31-year-old has had a number of injury problems in recent years, with Transfermarkt listing seven separate injuries suffered by Robben last season.

Aside from Bayern's likely reluctance to sell one of their stars, the Red Devils would almost certainly never consider offering such a phenomenal sum of money for a player on the wrong side of 30 and with Robben's injury history.

It's possible United will pursue a marquee name before the window slams shut, but realistically it won't be Robben.

Jonny Evans Agrees to Terms with West Bromwich Albion

According to Simon Stone of BBC Sport, the Baggies have "have agreed a fee of £6 million plus £2 million in add-ons with Manchester United" for Jonny Evans. This will allow Joleon Lescott to depart to Aston Villa, per Pete O'Rourke of ESPN.

The 27-year-old is yet to feature for United this season and made just 19 appearances in all competitions last season, albeit partly due to injury and suspension.

The Telegraph's Liam believes the Northern Ireland international never reached his full potential at Old Trafford and also notes that United's summer activity has put them in a strong financial position:

Though Evans may never have been a star performer for United, his experience will be of use to West Brom in the wake of Lescott's departure.

According to Squawka, Evans won 52 per cent of his tackles and an incredible 66 per cent of his headed duels last season, and maintained an impressive passing accuracy of 85 per cent.

The Baggies have already conceded six goals in three Premier League games this season, so Evans' presence will help add solidity to their side.

The defender leaves Old Trafford having never made a significant impact on the side, but he's set to have one at the Hawthorns as he looks to kick-start his career.
