Nottinghamshire Batsman Found in Stranger's Car After Drunk Celebration

Tom WebbAug 28, 2015

It's not every day you find a former international sportsman asleep on the backseat of your car in the morning.

But that's exactly the scenario father-of-two Michael Whitaker encountered on Wednesday morning, when he got to his car to find Nottinghamshire batsman Brendan Taylor fast asleep in the back.

Taylor had been out celebrating Nottinghamshire's quarter-final win over Durham in the Royal London One-Day Cup on Tuesday and had taken shelter from the rain in the car after being unable to find his way home.

"I did not know what to do. Someone I didn't know had fallen asleep in our car," said Whitaker, who didn't recognise the cricketer at first, via the Nottingham Post.

Whitaker hid round the corner while he waited for the police, who turned up to wake the intruder.

"I don't think he knew where he was but he was very apologetic and it quickly became clear that it was very innocent. Realising who it was made it even funnier, because how often do you find an international cricket star asleep in your car?"

Taylor played 23 Tests and 167 one-day internationals for Zimbabwe before retiring in the spring.
