Liverpool vs. West Ham: Brendan Rodgers' Key Comments from Pre-Match Presser

Liverpool fans need not expect a deadline-day transfer surge at Anfield after manager Brendan Rodgers confirmed the club will not be active late in the window.

Speaking to the press ahead of Saturday's fixture against West Ham United, Rodgers proclaimed Liverpool would be "quiet" next Tuesday, per James Pearce of the Liverpool Echo:

Many Reds fans may already be pleased with the influx of players on Merseyside in recent months, with a total of more than £65 million spent on the likes of Christian Benteke, Roberto Firmino and Nathaniel Clyne.

The Liverpool departures list has been equally engaging, and Rodgers highlighted Mario Balotelli's season-long loan return to Milan as a "good deal," with no hint toward the Italian's Premier League future:

Balotelli arrived at Anfield last summer, but he failed to live up to expectations after netting just one goal in 16 league appearances.

Another of the club's unsuccessful investments of 2014 is that of Lazar Markovic, who is primed for a loan move to Fenerbahce, as confirmed by the Guardian's Andy Hunter. But despite that move, Rodgers insisted Markovic "does have a future" with the club, per Merseyside writer Richard Buxton.

West Ham make the trip to Anfield on Saturday after losing successive home games to Leicester City and Bournemouth, conceding six goals in total.

However, Rodgers is still wary of a team that defeated Arsenal 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium in their campaign opener, describing Saturday's tie as the "toughest of the four" his side will have played, according to the Echo's Pearce.

That comes after the Reds managed to strip a point from the Gunners on Monday evening, drawing 0-0 at the Emirates in a display that once again saw shrewd summer signing Joe Gomez impress at left-back.

The unassuming Charlton Athletic recruit has surprised many by stealing the defensive slot from Alberto Moreno and Jose Enrique.

Rodgers lavished praise upon the 18-year-old after being handed his first England under-21 call-up earlier this week, acknowledging left-back as Gomez's "third-best position," according to Pearce, before adding:

"Joe is a wonderful athlete and has also got a very good football brain. He has a very good personality, very humble."

Gomez isn't the only full-back impressing at Anfield, according to This Is Anfield. Rodgers also picked out right-sided Clyne for plaudits:

The Merseysiders host the Hammers with an unbeaten start to the season intact and having yet to concede even a single goal in their three Premier League outings so far.

Rodgers said improving that aspect of their game has been a major focus for the team, and it appears to be paying dividends:

But for all that solidity at the back, fans may also like to see sidelined striker Daniel Sturridge back in action following an operation on his hip.

ESPN FC's Ben Dinnery provided a fitness update from Rodgers, who said the England striker doesn't have a return date in sight just yet:

Liverpool walked away with a 2-0 win against West Ham when these two sides last met in January, but Saturday's hosts will be cautious of Slaven Bilic's team after their surprise Arsenal victory three weeks ago.

The Hammers haven't won a league fixture at Anfield since September 1963, and Rodgers will be hoping his new-look Liverpool have enough about them to see that drought extended on Saturday.
