WWE SmackDown Results: Biggest Winners, Losers and Moments for August 27

Erik BeastonAug 28, 2015

The WWE Universe watched in stunned silence Thursday night as the unconscious body of Roman Reigns crashed to the ground, the juggernaut no match for the monstrous Braun Strowman. The newest member of The Wyatt Family, dubbed "The Black Sheep," had again wreaked havoc and left the 2015 Royal Rumble winner lying in a heap.

It was the culmination of a night in which the faction reestablished itself as the most dangerous and unpredictable force in World Wrestling Entertainment, a trio capable of backing up the overly complicated promos and parlor tricks with brute force and physical violence thanks to the presence of the massive newcomer Strowman.

During what was a very solid episode of SmackDown, Bray Wyatt and his family stood head and shoulders above all other Superstars as the biggest winners of the night.

But they were not the only ones. And Thursday's broadcast also had a few losers, as well.

Who fell on what side?

Let's take a look.

Winner: Charlotte

The second generation Diva may have set herself up for a future championship opportunity by securing a win for her and Becky Lynch over The Bella Twins, but it was the interaction that took place backstage before the bout that earned her "winner" status for Thursday's broadcast.

At a time when everyone else seems immune to history, it was the daughter of "Nature Boy" Ric Flair that potentially created tension between Nikki and Brie by reminding everyone that the former betrayed the latter last August at SummerSlam.

Finally.

One of the greatest instances of the company's lack of attention to details is the sudden and inexplicable reunion of the sisters after such heinous and despicable actions by Nikki toward her sibling. That it was finally addressed after a year of nothing is a step in the right direction.

Whether anything comes of it is the question.

Charlotte planted the seed and set herself up in title contention moments later. Not a bad way to spend an episode of SmackDown.

Winners: The Dudley Boyz

For fans unfamiliar with their exploits in TNA Wrestling, Bubba Ray and D-Von Dudley have been out of sight and out of mind for nearly a decade. Barring Bubba's brief appearance at this year's Royal Rumble, the duo has not been seen on WWE program for 10 years. Yet, when they returned Monday night on Raw, they were greeted with a hero's welcome.

The pop they received from the fans in Brooklyn had to have exceeded even their own expectations.

Thursday night, they were again welcomed warmly, this time by the faithful inside the Dunkin Donuts Center in Providence, R.I.

From there, they proceeded to defeat The Ascension, all the while hitting their trademark offense and crowd-pleasing spots. Their victory popped the crowd, and Bubba's powerbomb to Viktor, through a table, sent a message to WWE Tag Team champions The New Day that the brothers from different mothers are prepared to relieve them of their gold.

Loser: Sheamus

The Celtic Warrior should be collecting clean victories at this point, strengthening his status as Mr. Money in the Bank. Instead, he picked up a win Thursday night over Dean Ambrose after interference from The Wyatt Family.

For some reason, WWE Creative has hesitated to get fully behind Sheamus in his role of eventual WWE World Heavyweight champion. He has won more than he has lost and has been involved in a largely irrelevant feud with Randy Orton.

A tainted win over Ambrose does nothing to help his credibility at this point. While some will argue that participation in a main event, and winning said main event, should help establish him as one of the night's biggest winners, the opposite is true in this case.
