Raiders Have The Edge On The Chargers Historically

This one’s for the Nation…

OK, so the Chargers have beaten the Raiders 12 times in a row.  Every Chargers fan you run into will tell you that.  Overall, the series is 54-43-2, Raiders.  Let’s start by taking a look at the stats before the 12-game streak.

Before the streak, the Raiders were 54-30-2 against the Chargers, a win/loss percentage of 64.  In this time (before 2003) here were the stats:

NFL AFC West Division Titles: Raiders 13, Chargers 5

NFL AFC Conference Titles: Raiders 5, Chargers 1

AFL Titles – Raiders 1, Chargers 1

Super Bowl titles: Raiders 3, Chargers 0

The Raiders have the best Super Bowl winning percentage in the AFC West at 60% (3 out of 5).  The Chargers?  0% (0 for 1).

One overall stat, covering all years: Hall of Famers – Raiders 13, Chargers  10

OK Chargers fans, I’m not completely mean.  Let’s look at the time since the 12-game streak.

NFL AFC West Division Titles: Chargers 4, Raiders 0

NFL AFC Conference Titles: Chargers 0, Raiders 0

Super Bowl Titles: Chargers 0, Raiders 0.

Wait a minute…for the entire streak, these 6 years that the Chargers have beaten the Raiders, all they have to show for it is Division Titles?  Sure, 4 in 6 years is good, but no AFC Conference Titles?  No Super Bowls?

Seems kind of wasted.

You see, Raiders may love the past, but that’s because we have one.  Sure, the past few years have been bad.  But when the Raiders won, they knew how to make it count.  AFC Conference Titles, Super Bowls.  They didn’t just fizzle out every time in the early playoffs.

Oh and the last AFC West team to go to the Super Bowl?  Raiders.  We didn’t win it; I’ll even say we got owned.  But we were there.

So Chargers fans, take your 12 straight wins.  That streak will end.  And when it does, you can write about how much you accomplished during those seasons.

It shouldn’t take up even half a page.
