THE TOP QUARTERBACK THOROUGHBREDS

 by Dave-Te' Thomas

The NFL Draft Report

The 2009 Heisman Trophy hype centered around three “thoroughbred” quarterbacks entering the season, with 2009 award recipient Sam Bradford-Oklahoma, 2008 award winner Tim Tebow-Florida and Colt McCoy-Texas garnering most of that attention. But, based on their season-opening performances, this trio might have to start looking over their shoulders, as a “dark horse” candidate, Tony Pike-Cincinnati made a resounding opening statement that should make this a very interesting race throughout the season. Throughout the 2009 campaign, The NFL Draft Report will track the progress of the top five quarterbacks expected to enter the 2010 NFL Draft, as they vie not only for the Heisman Trophy, but also the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, Davey O’Brien Award and Manning Award, national honors reserved for the best quarterback in college football. To compile this “report card,” we examine each athlete’s performance in detailed categories listed below;
