Lucas Silva to Marseille: Latest Loan Transfer Details, Reaction and More

Marseille have agreed a deal to sign Real Madrid midfielder Lucas Silva on loan for the remainder of the 2015-16 campaign.

The French club confirmed Silva's temporary switch on Thursday, translated by Bleacher Report's Jonathan Johnson:

This transfer gives the youngster a chance to develop in a European setting that's more likely to offer first-team chances. The 22-year-old makes his way to France after struggling to find a place in the starting XI at the Bernabeu following his €14 million move from Brazilian outfit Cruzeiro in January of this year.

ESPN FC's Dermot Corrigan previously acknowledged that by signing Silva on a one-year deal, new Marseille manager Michel has galvanised his relationship with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez:

Les Olympiens are hoping to make a surge up the French standings after finishing fourth last season and booking their place in the Europa League group stage.

Silva made just eight league appearances for Los Merengues during the latter half of the 2014-15 campaign, only three of which were as part of Carlo Ancelotti's starting lineup.

New helmsman Rafa Benitez may have opted to farm the Brazilian out, but Real will be hoping to see the starlet return with a wealth of experience under his belt and new Bernabeu prospects in sight.

Competition for Silva's signature has been rife, according to Corrigan, who cites Spanish newspaper Marca as reporting as many as 10 clubs were in the hunt for his talents:

In the end, though, it's Marseille who have landed the former Brasileirao Serie A star, who won back-to-back league titles with Cruzeiro in 2013 and 2014.
