Dak Prescott Reacts to George Pickens Trade Rumors Amid Cowboys Struggles Ahead of NFL Deadline
Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott weighed in on the trade buzz surrounding wide receiver George Pickens following a 3-5 start to the 2026 season.
"People say a lot of things I don't believe, so I'm not listening to that one, either," Prescott said Thursday, per Jon Machota of The Athletic. "George is a great teammate. And I say that in the sense of, he's gonna do whatever is asked, he's gonna do whatever is called. If it's to go block, if it's to just go run a guy off, he's gonna do that. He believes in just doing the right thing, and the ball will come his way at times. And so, that's not on George."
ESPN's Dan Graziano previously reported that opposing teams are "wondering" if Pickens could become available on the trade market if Dallas loses to the Indianapolis Colts in Week 9.
That doesn't necessarily mean the Cowboys are open to a deal, though.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport also reported that "there's nothing here and that it is not happening" regarding Dallas possibly trading Pickens.
The receiver reportedly sought a long-term contract or a trade during the offseason, although he ultimately signed the franchise tag for one year and $27.3 million.
Pickens is now set to hit free agency in 2027, but the Cowboys can choose to tag him again. Both sides could agree to a long-term deal as well.
For now, Pickens is focusing on helping Dallas bounce back from its slow start to the season.
While he hasn't performed at the same level as his breakout 2025 campaign in which he racked up 1,429 receiving yards and earned his first Pro Bowl nod, he's remained productive this year.
In eight games, Pickens has hauled in 39 receptions for 533 yards and two touchdowns. Prescott owns a 106.1 passer rating when targeting Pickens, according to Pro Football Focus.
The 2026 NFL trade deadline is on Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET.
