New Cowboys Trade Rumors Reveal Plans for George Pickens Ahead of NFL Deadline
The Dallas Cowboys are 3-5 and look nothing like a legitimate contender. George Pickens is playing on the franchise tag and may go elsewhere during the upcoming offseason.
Logic dictates there could be a trade in the making before the NFL's Nov. 10 deadline.
But that doesn't seem to be the case.
"I was told there's nothing here and that it is not happening," NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported during an appearance on Tuesday's episode of The Pat McAfee Show. "… As of right now, literally nothing there. … The way the Cowboys' division is, it is wide open. I would be surprised to see them trading a playmaker."
Rapoport's final point is important, as the Cowboys are still within striking distance of the first-place New York Giants.
New York is 4-2-1 but is relying on J.J. McCarthy at quarterback with Jaxson Dart sidelined by injury. It also still has to play the Cowboys on the road in Week 17, meaning Dallas will have an opportunity to pick up a critical late-season head-to-head result.
Given the amount of talent on the Cowboys' roster with Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, Pickens and Javonte Williams, among others, it wouldn't be particularly surprising if they rallied from their slow start and threatened for the division crown.
Yet trading Pickens would be quite the blow for those chances.
The 2025 Pro Bowler has 39 catches for 533 yards and two touchdowns through eight games this season after finishing with career-highs across the board last year with 93 catches for 1,429 yards and nine touchdowns.
There is obvious chemistry in place with Prescott, and trading him ahead of the deadline would prevent the Cowboys from perhaps engaging in long-term contract discussions with the star receiver down the line.
What's more, team owner Jerry Jones told 105.3 The Fan he doesn't see the team making any notable trades in the immediate future:
Between Jones' comments and Rapoport's reporting, it would certainly be stunning if Pickens finished the season anywhere but Dallas.
