New Yankees Rumors on Jazz Chisholm Jr. Plans After 2B Does Not Receive Qualifying Contract Offer
Jazz Chisholm Jr.'s time on the New York Yankees reportedly could be coming to an end.
After the American League East team did not offer him the $23.15 million qualifying offer on Monday, Yankees insider Jack Curry reported, "I think the Yankees are ready to part ways with Jazz Chisholm.
"… There was also inconsistency for his game this season, and I think for that $23 million, the Yankees weren't ready to go near that."
Curry suggested Anthony Volpe and José Caballero could take Chisholm's place at second base during the 2027 campaign if the starter does not return.
The Miami Marlins traded Chisholm to the Yankees during the 2024 campaign, and he was impressive in his first full season with the Bronx Bombers with 31 home runs, 80 RBI and 31 stolen bases in 2025.
The home run and RBI totals were career-high marks, and it also marked his second straight year with more than 30 stolen bases after he swiped 40 during the 2024 campaign.
Yet Chisholm saw a drop in production at the plate last season while slashing .231/.312/.399 with 19 home runs and 55 RBI. However, he stole a career-high 41 bases, proving his value in other ways even when his offense took a step back.
The biggest issue has been in the playoffs, as the second baseman hit .182 in each of the last two postseasons. Considering New York is often in World-Series-or-bust mode, that isn't good enough and has been a concern.
While the veteran is just 28 years old and will likely still be productive in 2027, it seems like the Yankees will look to use their resources elsewhere this offseason. Perhaps that means bringing in additional bullpen arms or even another major bat on the market.
But it seems like it will also mean the end of Chisholm's tenure with the team.
