NFL Insider Floats Jacoby Brissett As Potential Ravens Trade Target Amid Lamar Jackson Injury
The Baltimore Ravens are desperate for help in their quarterback room, and their solution could be the Arizona Cardinals' new emergency third-string quarterback.
The Cardinals named Gardner Minshew II their new starter on Monday and demoted Jacoby Brissett to the third-string behind Carson Beck. ESPN's Adam Schefter noted on NFL Live that the demotion raises "questions on his future there."
Schefter then floated Baltimore as a possible trade landing spot for Brissett after Lamar Jackson was placed on the injured reserve.
"We have an experienced, veteran starting quarterback who is now No. 3," Schefter said. "Any team that is out there, like a Baltimore, would certainly have to look at Arizona for a potential trade target."
On Sunday, Jackson returned to action after missing three games due to an ankle sprain, but he exited the matchup against the Buffalo Bills just a few plays into the game. Head coach Jesse Minter revealed after the game that the two-time MVP would need surgery on his thumb and would have to go on the injured reserve, meaning he'll miss at least four games.
Tyler Huntley, who filled in for Jackson when he was injured, came in momentarily but was also forced to exit because of a turf toe injury. He is expected to miss extended time as well.
The two injuries make undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano the starter heading into this week's matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He completed 10 of his 21 pass attempts on Sunday for 91 yards and an interception in the 36-10 loss.
The Ravens also signed quarterback Austin Reed to their practice squad on Monday. Reed, who went undrafted out of Western Kentucky in 2023, has not played in an NFL game but was with Baltimore during training camp.
Brissett has struggled to start the 2026 campaign, throwing for 1,719 yards, 10 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He had 119 yards and an interception before being replaced by Minshew in the third quarter of Sunday's game against the Dallas Cowboys.
It's unclear whether the Cardinals plan to move on from Brissett after benching him, but it wouldn't be surprising if the Ravens inquired about him before the trade deadline.
