Roman Reigns Kicked Off Raw

Last Time in Action: Roman Reigns defeated LA Knight (Money in the Bank, October 10)

Just days before he battles Undisputed WWE Champion Sami Zayn in the main event of Crown Jewel, Roman Reigns hit the ring in the Barclays Center to kick off Monday's Raw.

Before the OTC could get too far into his promo, The Last Real Good Guy interrupted, drawing boos but also a serenade from some loyal ride-or-dies in Brooklyn.

Zayn took exception to Reigns overlooking him and talking about the 946, to which the Tribal Chief responded by claiming he is the reason his upcoming opponent has a job, is a champion, and is making millions.

He claimed Zayn was "Johnny Knoxville's little b***h" when he found him. The WWE champion blasted Reigns, reminding him and the fans that they will remember his match with the Jackass star for the next decade, while no one remembers anything about the world champion's "sixth-of-12" match against Brock Lesnar.

A fired-up Reigns expressed disdain for what Zayn has become and, more importantly, that he ruined what he spent time creating. He vowed to win Saturday and demanded that Brooklyn acknowledge him to close things out.

Top Takeaways

  • This was an extraordinary promo. Zayn was otherworldly and his line about being the "g*****n WWE Champion" would have been the perfect exclamation point in any other situation. Reigns was equally great, remaining confident while clearly shaken by Zayn's criticisms. Their match Saturday might be an all-timer in the making.
  • It is still amazing how over Reigns remains as a when at its core, this OTC character is no different than the heel character that reigned supreme for four years.
  • Reigns claimed that had he not beaten Brock Lesnar for the WWE title at WrestleMania 38, Zayn wouldn't hold it today because it would not exist, is wrong. The only title that would not exist today is the world title that he currently holds.

Intercontinental Championship Match: Chad Gable vs. Ethan Page

Monday Night RAW

Last Time in Action: Ethan Page and Big Cass defeated Chad Gable and Dragon Lee (Raw, October 26)

Looking to capitalize on the neck injury he perpetrated last week with a Fiserman Suplex on the arena floor, "All Ego" Ethan Page targeted the head, neck, and shoulders of Intercontinental Champion Chad Gable early and often in Monday's opening match.

Gable absorbed everything his challenger threw at him and remained in the fight, catching the challenger in an ankle lock. When the heel escaped to the floor, Gable immediately delivered an Angle Slam onto the announcer's table. A moonsault from the top rope earned him a two-count.

Page recovered and slammed Gable into the timekeeper's area to regain control of the bout.

Back from the break, the champion delivered the Chaos Theory, but his neck and shoulder prevented him from bridging long enough to score the win. Page delivered a Twist of Fate for a near-fall, but frustration set in as he failed to keep the injured babyface down.

Late in the match, Page countered out of an ankle lock, kicked Gable back-first into an exposed turnbuckle, and scored the victory and title.

Page defeated Gable to win the title

Top Takeaways

  • This was by far Page's best match in a WWE ring and that is not exclusively because of who he worked with. Gable is extraordinary, but Page proved why he has earned this spot since debuting this past April after WrestleMania 42.
  • Speaking of Gable, his win over CM Punk at a live event last Wednesday could be signifying that there are bigger plans for him. If so, they are well earned. If he finds himself battling back to the IC title, that is fine, too. As long as he is allowed to have banger matches on free TV, all is well.
