Si-Hwan Roh Posted for MLB Teams, Top Landing Spots for Korean Star in Free Agency

Timothy RappNov 2, 2026

Si-Hwan Roh is heading to Major League Baseball.

The 25-year-old Korean star was posted by the KBO's Hanwha Eagles on Monday, creating a 30-day window for him to negotiate with MLB teams.

But which teams might be interested in his services?

Really, any team needing help at third base—assuming MLB teams believe he's good enough to stick there defensively—or teams willing to utilize him as a designated hitter will likely have interest, especially in a winter that is pretty light on help at the position. Teams that miss out on what is expected to be a vibrant market for Japanese star Teruaki Sato could make sense as Roh suitors.

Michael Clair of MLB.com listed the St. Louis Cardinals, New York Yankees, Seattle Mariners and Los Angeles Angels as potential Roh suitors.

The Cardinals have an extremely obvious need at third base, making them a logical potential destination for a player like Roh. And the Korean star also appears to be on the same timeline as a Cardinals team that showed growth in 2026 but it still very much in a rebuilding process.

The Yankees need to rework their offense in general and will need to replace the likely-departing Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Trent Grisham. They also already are dealing with a large payroll, so a player like Roh might ultimately be a worthwhile gamble at a lower price point than a player like Sato.

The Mariners have a need at third base and a need for more power, though Roh becomes less appealing for Seattle if the team doesn't feel like he can handle the hot corner defensively.

And the Angels... could use some hope. Something to give their fans a reason to get excited as the Stan Kroenke ownership era is set to begin at some point in 2027. Roh wouldn't move the needle like Sato, but it would be a start.
