Jack Campbell Hospitalized After Being Carted Off with Scary Injury for Lions vs. Vikings
Detroit Lions linebacker Jack Campbell suffered what appears to be a serious injury during Sunday's game against the Minnesota Vikings.
After making a tackle, Campbell was unable to get up on his own power and received attention from medical staff on the field before being carted off.
He was transported to a local hospital, the team announced.
Head coach Dan Campbell provided a limited update after the game:
Jack Campbell is one of the most important pieces of the Lions' defense, coming into Sunday's game leading the team in total tackles (54). He added three more tackles against the Vikings on Sunday before suffering his neck injury.
He's coming off a season in which he earned a First-team All-Pro nod after collecting a career-high 176 tackles, five sacks and three forced fumbles.
Detroit rewarded Campbell for his career season by giving him a four-year, $81 million contract extension over the offseason.
The Lions selected Campbell with the 18th overall pick in 2023 after his standout career at Iowa. The 26-year-old has since developed not only into one of the best linebackers in the league, but also into the leader of Detroit's defense.
"This is Jack Campbell's defense, and I don't hesitate when I say that," defensive coordinator Kelvin Sheppard said of Campbell earlier this year. "This is Jack Campbell's defense and everyone in that locker room knows it. Point blank period. It all goes through Jack."
Needless to say, losing Campbell would be a significant blow to the Lions, who are 4-2 and looking to return to the playoffs after missing the playoffs last season.
