The Halloween spirit is already in full swing in the sports world.
Every year, professional athletes across all major leagues get creative and wow us with elaborate costumes that give us a peek into their off-court interests. It's always a blast to see how far Halloween-enthusiast athletes can go with a big platform and a bigger payday to bring their costumes to life.
Who could forget LeBron James as Edward Scissorhands in 2019?

That happened to be the same year Dwight Howard fully committed to the bit in a full Thanos get-up:
As 2026 Halloweekend rolls in, let's take a look at the 10 most absurd athlete Halloween costumes that players have entertained us with so far this season.
No. 10: 49ers WR Ricky Pearsall as Austin Powers
1 of 10Foxxy Cleopatra obviously steals the show here, but the beauty of a couples costume is the ability to aura farm.
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall made a groovy Austin Powers alongside Foxxy and let her shine, just like the real Austin Powers would.
No. 9: Penguins Forward Rickard Rakell as Jack Skellington
2 of 10If Victor Wembanyama isn't going to do it, somebody has to.
We're glad Pittsburgh Penguins forward Rickard Rakell and his partner took on the responsibility of the Jack Skellington and Nightmare Before Christmas costume this year, because they killed it.
The full dedication with the body and face paint. The wig. The accurate outfits and personal touches. This is a well-done Halloween costume, and it reminded us that you don't always have to do the absolute most to make an impact.
No. 8: Lions RB Jahmyr Gibbs as Michael Jackson
3 of 10There's something great about the fact that Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs chose to rock Michael Jackson's Super Bowl XXVII performance outfit.
This isn't your run-of-the-mill Thriller fan, this is a ball-knower. Let's hope he moonwalks into the end zone on Sunday.
No. 7: Bruins Goalie Jeremy Swayman as Costco Employee
4 of 10
Who doesn't love a free sample or 20 on a Costco run?
We only hope the Swaymans were handing out actual pizza rolls.
No. 6: Mammoth Defenseman Andrew Peeke as Justin and Britney
5 of 10
No. 5: Capitals Forward Tom Wilson as Castaway
6 of 10
Sometimes the beauty of a costume is the personal touch, and that couldn't be more accurate for Capitals forward Tom Wilson and former pro volleyball player wife Taylor. They used Halloween to announce that their family is expecting, with the help of a 2000s Tom Hanks classic.
Taylor Wilson captioned the photo referencing the famous quote from Castaway: "Baby WILSONNNNN! #2 coming March 2027"
No. 4: Lions QB Jared Goff as Bobby Boucher
7 of 10Putting on the costume is only half the battle. The other half is committing to the bit.
Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff fully committed to his Bobby "The Waterboy Boucher" bit this Halloween.
The absurdity of the costume is even better when you consider the awesome season Goff is having compared to the character he's portraying. He's the first quarterback in NFL history to throw at least 14 touchdowns without turning the ball over once through the first six games of a season.
Don't flex on us too hard!
No. 3: Bruins Defenseman Nikita Zadorov as The Nutcracker
8 of 10
File Boston Bruins defenseman Nikita Zadorov's costume as "unintentionally terrifying."
Zadorov and his family are known for their yearly halloween photo shoots. This one definitely didn't disappoint.
The whole squad teamed up for a Nutcracker look, with Zadorov completely decked out as the Nutcracker himself. It's an accomplishment that none of the kids are screaming or crying at this terrifying sight.
No. 2: Knicks C Karl-Anthony Towns and Jordyn Woods as 'Game of Thrones' Characters
9 of 10
Knicks superstar Karl-Anthony Towns and wife Jordyn Woods win "most elaborate costume of the year" so far with their ultra-realistic Game Of Thrones-inspired couples costume.
Towns dressed as the Night King, complete with facial prosthetics, body paint, armor and a "weapon." Woods was a White Walker, with all of the special effects and makeup to elevate the concept.
Best of all, HBO Max and the Knicks gave us a behind-the-scenes look into just how much effort costumes like this take.
Everyone say thank you to Towns for making sure we were treated to a championship-caliber costume this year.
No. 1: 49ers CB Nate Hobbs as Daejon Love
10 of 10Yep, they did it. They actually did it.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy hosted a bye-week Halloween party, and some solid costumes came out of it. None came close to actual 49ers cornerback Nate Hobbs dressing up as the infamous Daejon Love.
Love was arrested and indicted on federal wire fraud charges earlier this year for posing as a 49ers player on dating sites and social media and scamming people for money.
Sometimes, the best costumes aren't about the elaborate makeup. They're a result of thinking, "I have the opportunity to do the funniest thing right now," and actually doing it.
