Greg Olsen Reportedly Seen as 'Favorite' to Replace Troy Aikman on 'Monday Night Football'
Amid the ongoing speculation about Troy Aikman's future in the Monday Night Football broadcast booth, ESPN is keeping an eye on Greg Olsen as a potential replacement candidate.
Per The Athletic's Andrew Marchand, Olsen is viewed as the "favorite" by people in the sports media industry to take over Aikman's role next to Joe Buck next season.
Sports media insider Richard Deitsch reported on Oct. 15 that Olsen's current contract with Fox is set to expire at the end of this season and the two sides have not had any discussions about a new deal thus far.
Aikman and Buck have been broadcast partners since 2002. They spent 20 seasons together at Fox before signing with ESPN in March 2022 to take over as the commentary crew for Monday Night Football.
This season marks the final year of the original contracts Aikman and Buck signed with ESPN. Buck got a new six-year deal from the network in September, leaving Aikman's status up in the air right now.
During an Oct. 16 appearance on 96.7 The Ticket in Dallas, Aikman said he is going to "free agent at the end of the year and kind of see what happens."
Olsen has been a full-time broadcaster as part of Fox Sports' NFL coverage since the 2021 season. He was part of the No. 1 team with play-by-play announcer Kevin Burkhardt and sideline reporters Erin Andrews and Tom Rinaldi during the 2022 season.
That group was on the call for Super Bowl 57 between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles.
After Tom Brady moved into broadcasting starting in 2023, Olsen has been paired with Joe Davis on the No. 2 team for Fox.
