Myles Garrett Injury Status, Return Timeline Updated By Rams' Sean McVay Amid Knee Issue

Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay revealed Wednesday that Myles Garrett's 21-day practice window won't be opened this week, according to Stu Jackson of the team's official website.

McVay also explained that Garrett is "on a week-to-week basis," per Jackson.

On Sept. 17, the Rams placed the star pass-rusher on injured reserve after he underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee.

Garrett has already missed four weeks since the placement, meaning that he's eligible to be activated off IR and make his return whenever he's ready to suit up again.

It initially appeared as though the Rams could open his 21-day practice window ahead of a Week 8 matchup with the Los Angeles Chargers, as NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Friday that it was "likely" Garrett returned to practice in the week leading up to the contest.

Jonathan Jones of The Athletic previously reported that a six-week recovery timeline for the 30-year-old was viewed as a "worst-case scenario" as well.

Garrett will be sidelined for a little while longer, however.

The Rams had high expectations entering their 2026 campaign, as they acquired Garrett in a blockbuster trade with the Cleveland Browns in June. The two-time Defensive Player of the Year was also coming off a 2025 season in which he set a new NFL record with 23 sacks.

Garrett's inaugural year in Los Angeles hasn't started on a high note, as he has yet to share the field with Aaron Donald after the star defensive tackle came out of retirement to join the Rams once again.

Los Angeles currently sits at No. 3 in the NFC West standings with a 3-4 record.

Garrett's next opportunity to return will come against the Washington Commanders on Nov. 8.
