Giants 'Looking for' 2 Positions at NFL Trade Deadline amid Jonathan Taylor Buzz, New Rumors Reveal
The New York Giants could potentially be in the market for Jonathan Taylor should the Indianapolis Colts decide to move the star running back amid their ongoing fire sale.
NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported Wednesday the Giants are "looking for" a running back and defensive tackle ahead of the Nov. 10 trade deadline.
Schultz's report comes after the Colts began a roster teardown by trading guard Quenton Nelson and defensive tackle DeForest Buckner on Tuesday.
Giants general manager Joe Schoen told reporters Tuesday he had been in contact with "teams that have already started some trades."
ESPN's Jordan Raanan previously reported the asking price for Taylor is expected to be "a second-round pick and possibly more."
Schoen said those early talks had given him "a pretty good idea who may or may not be available."
"It's got to make sense, short-term and long-term, when you make those moves," Schoen said.
ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported Wednesday wide receiver Josh Downs had requested a trade from the Colts. Head coach Shane Steichen said Taylor had not as of the same day.
Taylor is currently signed through the 2028 season. Schoen holds six picks, including first- and second-round selections, in the upcoming 2027 draft.
The Giants released Najee Harris last week after failing to get Cam Skattebo any touches in Week 6. Harris had expressed frustration with splitting touches with three other running backs prior to being cut.
Harbaugh said when asked about Harris' complaints regarding the four-man running back rotation he would "love" for the Giants to be in "a Derrick Henry circumstance or a Saquon Barkley circumstance."
"Our run game hasn't earned that yet, and none of those guys have," Harbaugh said ahead of Week 7.
The Giants have stayed in playoff contention despite losing Jaxson Dart in part because of the relatively weak NFC East and in part because J.J. McCarthy led his team to an overtime win against the Houston Texans when making his first Giants start in Week 7.
The Athletic'sย Dan Dugganย reported ahead of the game the Giants had decided to turn to McCarthy over Jameis Winston in part to make up for Dart's absence from the team's run game.
The Giants could hope further bolstering that rushing attack ahead of the deadline, potentially with a player Harbaugh can lean on to the degree he relied on Henry with the Ravens, will help the franchise stay in postseason contention long enough for Dart to potentially return for the playoffs.
