Best of Summer TBT on Instagram

The whole of social media has really embraced Throwback Thursday. Each week, feeds on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram are awash with photos that are high on nostalgia and low on clarity.

Nothing says #TBT like a ridiculously blurry high school yearbook picture.

It's not just your friends and, God love her, your mom getting in on the action either. Athletes and celebrities have become regular participants in Throwback Thursday, providing a look into their past before they were stars.

Here are some of the best #TBT photos of the summer.

Miesha Tate

This one doesn't look like it goes back quite far enough to be considered "throwback," but soon-to-be three-time Ronda Rousey victim Miesha Tate labeled it as such. So all we can do is take her at her word.

Brandon Marshall

New York Jets wide receiver Brandon Marshall is pictured rocking considerably larger hair than we're used to seeing on him. He can definitely pull that look off.

Toni Kukoc

Talk about a guy who gets lost in the shuffle! Having played alongside Hall of Fame greats Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen and Dennis Rodman, Toni Kukoc can easily be forgotten, but the Chicago Bulls haven't stopped appreciating the efforts of the former Sixth Man of the Year.

Tony Hawk

Apparently Tony Hawk has found the fountain of youth in the deck of his skateboard. It's hard to believe the guy is rapidly closing in on 50 when he looks so remarkably similar to his 12-year-old self.

Just in case you were wondering if Miami Heat star Dwyane Wade was always so stylish—he definitely was. D-Wade was obviously a standout at his senior prom, rocking the gray satin shirt with a gray suit. Probably not as much of a standout as the guy on the right, though.

Steph Curry

This one actually goes back a few months, but since it was from the summer of 1998, it totally counts. The reigning NBA MVP and point guard for the reigning champion Golden State Warriors, Steph Curry is all smiles at basketball camp with his brother.

Vernon Davis

Way before he was playing tight end for the 49ers in San Francisco, Vernon Davis was a standout star at Dunbar High School in his native Washington, D.C.

Blake Griffin

Looks like Los Angeles Clippers star Blake Griffin's talents extended beyond the basketball court in his youth. Basketball fans in L.A. should consider themselves lucky he didn't decide to go pro with the whole T-ball thing.

Mark Sanchez

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Mark Sanchez looking very Mark Sanchez back in the day. He may not be accomplishing much on the field these days, but this guy has always had a feel for the GQ cover-boy stuff.

Nate Robinson

NBA free agent Nate Robinson looks about as dignified as humanly possible in the dreaded grade school pictures. Admit it—you don't have a single portrait from childhood that looks even half as good as Robinson's.

Russell Wilson

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson looking exactly how you'd imagine he did back in high school—happy, friendly and rocking the ridiculously pleated khaki pants of a much older man.

U.S. women's soccer standout Sydney Leroux observes #TBT like a religion—rarely does a week go by that she doesn't post a comically frank glimpse into what was obviously a very messy youth.

Chris Long
