Jets' Aaron Glenn, Colts' Shane Steichen Hot Seat Status Revealed in Latest NFL Rumors
With the NFL season nearly halfway complete, a number of coaches are on hot-seat watch.
ESPN's Jeremy Fowler noted that New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn could be one to watch in the coming weeks.
"Nothing hard and fast right now as far as his tenure, from what I'm hearing after asking around," Fowler said (1:00 mark). "Look, Woody Johnson, the owner there, is really happy with Aaron Glenn as a whole as far as the progress they made in the offseason from Year 1 to Year 2... But that is a job to watch now, cause in Year 2, they're still struggling with some clock management issues."
Amid the Indianapolis Colts' struggles, Fowler also pointed to Shane Steichen as another coach who could be on the hotseat.
"Shane Steichen could be a lame duck situation at this point," Fowler said. "Now, they do value him. They want to give him a little bit of time. Talking to people around the league, they suspected that this window of time, dating back to the Minnesota game yesterday, the Jaguars game coming up and that next week before the trade deadline. If they can sort of get right and win at least one or two games, it could change their plan for their coaches and what they sell."
The report from Fowler comes amid a 2-5 start to the season for the Jets, who lost to the previously winless Miami Dolphins on Sunday.
New York finished just 3-14 in Glenn's first year as head coach in 2025, starting the season 0-7, so it's fair to say they've already shown some improvement this season.
Rumors swirled ahead of the season that owner Woody Johnson was already eyeing a replacement for Glenn, but that speculation reportedly had no grounds.
Still, it's clear the Jets have a long way to go, and it's unclear if Glenn can be the coach to turn things around. New York has a tough stretch ahead against the Las Vegas Raiders, Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills, and going 0-3 over the next few weeks could have Johnson and the front office ready for a change.
The Colts are 2-5 to start Steichen's fourth season, a steep drop-off from last year's 8-2 start to the campaign. Indianapolis looked like a playoff contender for most of last year before a season-ending injury to Daniel Jones, but any momentum from that season has since vanished.
After losing to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, the Colts have another tough game this week against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Steichen perhaps was already on hot-seat watch to start the year after missing the playoffs in each of his first three seasons at the helm, and more struggles this year have only given the Colts more of a reason to part ways with him.
He'll look to put together a strong performance this week to save his job.
