New NFL Rumors on Aaron Glenn's Potential Jets Hot Seat Ahead of 2026 Season

Despite the New York Jets' poor performance in his first season as head coach, there is reportedly a belief from ownership in what head coach Aaron Glenn is trying to build.

According to Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic, any speculation that Jets owner Woody Johnson is already looking for Glenn's replacement is "baseless."

Rosenblatt added that "by all accounts, Johnson is on board with the plan that Glenn and [general manager Darren] Mougey have presented to him."

That plan is reportedly to "build something sustainable," and to not "skip any steps" while doing so.

Johnson and Glenn have a "very close relationship," per Rosenblatt, which suggests Glenn has a chance to keep his job beyond 2026 if the Jets show improvement.

Last season was a rough one for all involved, as the Jets finished 3-14, which was their worst record since a 2-14 mark in 2020.

In addition to tying for the worst record in the league, the Jets ranked 29th in scoring offense and 31st in scoring defense.

Glenn is a former NFL defensive back and defensive coordinator who was expected to at least bring some stability to the Jets' defense, but that was clearly not the case in Year 1.

After firing and replacing a large portion of his coaching staff from last season, Glenn is putting even more on his own plate in 2026, as he will be the defensive play-caller.

That means the bulk of New York's failures and successes on that side of the ball will likely be attributed to him.

The Jets' first test in Year 2 under Glenn will come in Week 1 when the Jets go on the road to face the Tennessee Titans, led by former Jets head coach Robert Saleh, on Sept. 13.
