Cam Skattebo Injured on Career-Long Run in Giants' OT Win, Latest Updates on RB
New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo's longest run of his career came with a price.
Skattebo told ESPN's Dan Graziano that he suffered a hamstring injury during his 42-yard run that helped set up Devin Singletary's game-winning 30-yard touchdown in Sunday's 27-21 overtime win over the Houston Texans.
"Good thing we have a bye week," Skattebo told Graziano.
Despite the good vibes from Sunday's win, Skattebo's admission dampens things a bit. The 24-year-old was limited to eight games during his rookie season after suffering a dislocated ankle, so it would be disappointing to see him miss time with another injury during his sophomore campaign.
Skattebo led the Giants with 17 carries for a career-high 124 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's win. It was his first career 100-yard game, and it helped the Giants improve to 4-2-1, maintaining their lead in the NFC East in what was expected to be a rebuilding year.
In addition to Skattebo's big performance and Singletary's game-winning score, the Giants also got rushing touchdowns from Tyrone Tracy Jr. and Jameis Winston, the latter of whom had four carries after losing his starting quarterback job to J.J. McCarthy. In all, New York totaled 188 yards on the ground.
The Giants will be on a bye in Week 8 before returning to action against the Philadelphia Eagles on Nov. 8, so Skattebo will have some extra time to recover from his hamstring injury before getting back on the field.
