Ahead of one of the most important offseasons in franchise history, the Indiana Fever's front office is undergoing significant changes.
The Fever have fired general manager Amber Cox, they announced Friday. The Athletic's Annie Costabile was first to report the news.
The move comes after the Fever announced on Friday morning that Kelly Krauskopf is stepping down from her role as team president.
Despite their first-round exit this season, the Fever set a franchise record with 28 wins during the regular season. Their .636 winning percentage was the third-best in franchise history after 2009 and 2012.
Indiana's decision to move on from Cox comes as the team enters a crucial offseason.
Kelsey Mitchellย is set to hit free agency coming off a historic 2026 in which she averaged a career-high 24.7 points per game, setting WNBA records for most total points in a season and most consecutive 20-point games.
Mitchell admitted in her end-of-season press conference she will be "selfish" when it comes to negotiating her next contract, while also mentioning some of "ups and downs" about playing for the Fever:
"But I think, ultimately, being on the Fever and being a part of an organization that does come with a lot of ups and downs, what factors in and what is important for me is, obviously, having a good chemistry on and off the floor. I've only been with one team my entire career, so it's all kind of like figuring this out. It's hard, man."
Sophie Cunningham is the other notable Fever player who will become a free agent. Caitlin Clark is eligible to sign an extension off her rookie contract, which is set to expire after the 2027 season.
Cox just wrapped up her second season with Indiana after being hired in October 2024. She held the titles of general manager and chief operating officer.
The Fever went 52-36 and made the playoffs twice under Cox, but their lone postseason series victory was in the first round against the Atlanta Dream in 2025. They have been eliminated by the Las Vegas Aces in both years.
Cox was the fourth different general manager for the Fever since 2018. Krauskopf, who held the title from 2004 to '17, is the only person who has been Indiana's GM for more than four seasons since the franchise was founded in 2000. ย
