Jameis Winston Reacts to Benching in New Video After J.J. McCarthy Named Giants QB1

The New York Giants are making a change at quarterback this Sunday and starting J.J. McCarthy over Jameis Winston at the Houston Texans.

On Wednesday, reporters asked Winston about the move, and the signal-caller took the high road in his response.

Winston took over as QB1 after Dart suffered a season-ending left knee injury on Monday, Sept. 21 at the Los Angeles Rams. He started the team's next four games. For the season, Winston has completed 57.0 percent of his passes for 957 yards (6.1 yards per attempt), seven touchdowns and five interceptions.

Last Sunday, Winston and the Giants got off to a rough start and fell behind 34-10 in the fourth quarter. Winston threw for 152 yards and a score but also tossed a pair of interceptions and had just 3.2 adjusted yards per attempt. He was also sacked four times.

Head coach John Harbaugh elected to make a change and inserted McCarthy into the lineup. McCarthy's first drive ended with an interception, but he caught fire and nearly led the Giants on an incredible comeback before they fell short 34-27.

McCarthy threw for 243 yards and a touchdown (plus the pick) while adding 26 rushing yards on two carries.

In a weak NFC East where the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys are 2-4 and the Washington Commanders are 1-4-1, the 3-2-1 Giants have a legitimate chance to emerge as division winners.

Ultimately, Harbaugh feels McCarthy gives this team the best chance right now in a surge for a postseason spot, and he'll lead the team on Sunday in Houston.
