Week 2 Marquee Matchups

Baltimore Ravens at Philadelphia Eagles, Saturday, 7 p.m. ET (NFL Network)

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly held quarterback Sam Bradford out of the team's preseason opener against the Indianapolis Colts, but he should turn the signal-caller loose against the Ravens on Saturday evening.

"I just felt he’s been out here for two weeks, done a really nice job," Kelly said on Aug. 14, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer's Zach Berman. "He’ll get his first work against the Ravens when we get a chance to train with them for a couple days before we play, and he’ll play in the Ravens game."

With Bradford coming off torn ACLs in back-to-back seasons, fans will be anxious to see what he can offer in Kelly's quick-strike, uptempo offense.

And if the early reviews have been any indication, the contract-year quarterback could flash some pinpoint passing chops.

"Sam Bradford will not win you any fantasy titles, but he may just dethrone Alex Smith as football’s best game manager," MMQB's Robert Klemko wrote. "He’s been uber-accurate in camp and has built a nice rapport with first-round rookie wideout Nelson Agholor in camp."

Saturday night could also mark the first time that fans are treated to a taste of running back DeMarco Murray in midnight green.

His status is still uncertain after the Eagles opted to hold him out of the Colts game, but Murray doesn't seem all that concerned with getting in-game reps in.

"I played four years," Murray said, per NFL.com's Conor Orr. "I'm very comfortable with the offense and myself. I'm getting a lot of great work here. It all depends on what they want to do...they know what's best for the team."

Matched up against a stout and experienced Ravens defense, the Eagles' attack will have its hands full as it seeks to implement new weapons and impose its will.

Denver Broncos at Houston Texans, Saturday, 8 p.m. ET

While the Denver Broncos are an established commodity, the Houston Texans are still discovering their identity as they get set to try to turn some heads in the AFC South.

Specifically, Houston is entertaining a starting quarterback competition between Brian Hoyer and Ryan Mallett that could go down to the wire.

Both Hoyer and Mallett impressed in their preseason debuts against the San Francisco 49ers, with Hoyer tossing the lone touchdown between the two, as the NFL documented on Twitter:

Here's a statistical comparison of how the two fared last week:

B. Hoyer246710
R. Mallett10119000

And after Hoyer drew the start against San Francisco, Mallett looks like he'll get the first crack at working with the first-team offense Saturday, according to NFL.com's Gregg Rosenthal.

However, the veteran could have the edge with several factors working to his advantage.

"Hoyer could be the favorite, simply because he has more experience (17 career starts to Mallett's two) and a higher salary (his two-year deal is worth $10.5 million, while Mallett's two-year pact is valued at $7 million)," NFL.com's Jeffri Chadiha wrote.

Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning is also expected to take the field Saturday after sitting out last week's game against the Seattle Seahawks to rest.

"I'd like our 1s to play quite a bit," Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak said, according to ESPN.com's Jeff Legwold. "Is that a quarter? A quarter-and-a-half? Is that a half? I don't know, I'll see how the game goes, but I want them to get a bunch of snaps under their belt. We have some guys that have not been working together who need to work together. ... Expect him [Manning] to play quite a bit."

Cincinnati Bengals at Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Monday, 8 p.m. ET (ESPN)

All eyes were on Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie quarterback Jameis Winston a week ago against the Minnesota Vikings, and his hot-and-cold debut left plenty to be desired.

Winston finished that tilt with 131 yards through the air on 9-of-19 passing, with one interception and an eight-yard touchdown run, although he did a nice job of bouncing back from the pick to lead a scoring drive.

This time around, Winston will take the field in front of a home crowd and look to create some fireworks that are a cause for optimism.

"I like throwing the football and making big plays," he said, according to the Tampa Bay Times' Tom Jones. "I'm very aggressive."

Flanked by receivers Mike Evans and Vincent Jackson, Winston should have plenty of opportunities to wind up and make some downfield magic.

Monday night will offer a chance for the quarterback and his big-play weapons to build even more chemistry, but a stingy Bengals secondary will provide a stiff test for the No. 1 pick.
