WWE SummerSlam 2015: Superstars Who Will Exceed Expectations

Erik BeastonAug 20, 2015

It is easy to look at any given wrestling card and say to one's self: "That guy is going to have a great match," or, "That one's going to steal the show."

It is much more difficult to look beyond the obvious and find Superstars who will exceed all expectations, especially on a lineup as stacked as the one WWE will present in Brooklyn, New York, this Sunday night for SummerSlam.

With matches such as John Cena vs. Seth Rollins and Cesaro vs. Kevin Owens, fans already have a pretty solid idea of which bouts will be most memorable.

But what about the rest of the stars on the card? Which ones will stand out, break out and exceed all expectations?

With so many matches and an additional hour to work with, these are the stars you can expect to seize the opportunity and make the most of their chance to shine under the bright lights of WWE's annual August spectacular.

Los Matadores

Sure, Fernando and Diego may be saddled with a gimmick that is straight out of early-1990s WWE and a mascot who is more over than they ever will have the opportunity to be, but that has never prevented them from giving the best performance possible.

A fun, energetic team consisting of two solid wrestlers, Los Matadores always manage to stand out when booked on a pay-per-view card.

As one-quarter of the Fatal 4-Way match for the WWE Tag Team Championships, expect to see the hard-working company guys perform up to the moment and, perhaps, outshine the higher-profile teams involved.

The Miz

The A-list celebrity does not get enough credit for being the performer that he is. A tremendous heel whose failure as WWE champion some four years is still held against him, despite awful booking, his character has held together the rivalry between him, Big Show and Ryback over the Big Guy's intercontinental title.

With Big Show limited at this point in his career, do not be surprised to see Miz carry the majority of the work from the heel side of things. A talented wrestler when motivated, the Triple Threat match will allow him to shine as he avoids a beating, eventually takes one and maybe even sneaks away with the championship.

Even if he loses, the Cleveland native should still showcase why he is among the most underappreciated performers on the roster.

Stephen Amell

Anyone familiar with the television series Arrow and Stephen Amell's work on that show knows that he is extremely athletic. He handles the majority of his own stunts and has agility most of the current WWE Superstars would kill for.

That helps to set him apart from other celebrities who have tried their hand at the sport and increases the odds that the major television star will exceed the expectations of the WWE Universe.

A lifelong fan of the art form, he respects what the WWE Superstars do. In the past, fans have witnessed other fans-turned-celebrities such as Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweather deliver fantastic performances because of the understanding they have of the business.

While he may be involved in a tag team match with midcard talents who are unlikely to receive any sort of push in the wake of the show, that will not deter Amell. Expect to see an inspired performance that has fans buzzing and will have WWE in the mainstream spotlight come Monday morning.

The Undertaker

No Superstar is under more scrutiny at this year's SummerSlam event than The Undertaker. Twitter has been inundated with complaints by fans about the Deadman's age and the fact that he should not realistically be able to beat Brock Lesnar.

With that said, the Phenom has a history of performing up to the moment. His WrestleMania matches typically range from good to great. Without suffering the serious concussion that he did in his bout with Lesnar last year, who knows what quality that match would have taken on?

Sunday night, Undertaker will walk into Barclays Center in Brooklyn for his biggest, most important match in years. A poor performance will only intensify the complains and criticisms. A fantastic match will restore fans' faith in the legendary competitor.

Given his resume, this writer is going to go all-in on the Deadman to rise to the occasion and prove his doubters wrong.
