49ers GM Reveals George Kittle Asked About Trade for Star Player Ahead of 2026 NFL Deadline
San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle has apparently checked in on whether his team is looking to acquire veteran edge rusher Khalil Mack from the Los Angeles Chargers.
The subject came up when 49ers general manager John Lynch was asked in a Friday appearance on KNBR's "The Murph & Markus Show" whether he had spoken with the Chargers about Mack.
"I can't tell you that. I had a lot of people asking me that yesterday," Lynch said around the 15:30 mark of the episode (h/t 49erswebzone's David Bonilla). "We seem to be connected to everyone. I don't know where that comes from... I had a player ask me that yesterday."

When asked to specify which player, Lynch said, "It's usually Kittle, because he asks about everything."
Mack is playing on a one-year deal without a no-trade clause, per The Athletic's Noah Furtado. The Chargers could be looking to sell ahead of the Nov. 10 trade deadline after an 0-5 start to the 2026 season.
The 35-year-old has recorded three sacks, 15 tackles (five for loss) and five quarterback hits during that winless start to the campaign.
Mack has appeared in six playoff games but has yet to record a postseason win in his 13-year NFL career. The undefeated 49ers could be looking for pass rush assistance should Nick Bosa miss more time with the calf injury that has sidelined him since Week 2, as well as a star to pair Bosa with down the stretch of a potential playoff run.
Whether general manager Joe Horitz shops Mack could depend at least in part on what direction his team takes over the next few weeks, although the Chargers could at best sit at 3-5 by the trade deadline.
The 49ers will for now turn their attention to Monday night's Week 6 matchup against the Washington Commanders. Bosa did not practice Thursday but has not yet been ruled out for the game.
