WWE SmackDown Spoilers: Complete Results and Analysis for August 20

Erik BeastonAug 18, 2015

The final stop on the road to SummerSlam weekend was made on Tuesday night, as WWE rolled into Green Bay, Wisconsin, for this week's SmackDown tapings.

As fans found out on Raw this past Monday night, the main event of the tapings would pit Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose, Randy Orton and Cesaro against Bray Wyatt, Luke Harper, Sheamus and Kevin Owens in a huge eight-man tag team match designed to shine a spotlight on three of the most prominent midcard feuds.

But they would not be the only ones to receive some much-needed hype ahead of Sunday's extravaganza.

The Divas revolution, as coined by Stephanie McMahon, would rage on, as Brie Bella met Becky Lynch and NXT women's champion Sasha Banks in a huge Triple Threat match.

Tag teams took center stage as The New Day met El Torito and Los Matadores in a six-man tag team bout just days before the Fatal 4-Way match for the WWE Tag Team Championships.

Then there was Neville, who warmed up for his huge tag team match at SummerSlam by squaring off against former NXT rival Bo Dallas.

The show was one that may not have had many implications on this weekend's huge event but did serve as some entertaining last-minute hype.

Who left Tuesday's tapings victorious?

Let's take a look, thanks to our friends over at Wrestling Inc.

Analysis

When they are not overdone, huge eight-man tag matches like the main event of Thursday's show are a great way to both steal the show and bring together a number of different feuds for one blockbuster match.

That is how The Four Horsemen started way back in the 1980s, and now—some 30 years later—it remains an effective booking crutch.

That all eight men involved are strong workers ensures a quality marquee match on this week's broadcast.

Extended mic time for Ziggler will be nice, especially since the majority of his promo work over the last year came during commercial breaks on the WWE app. His feud with Rusev intensified on Monday night with a strong segment that made up for some of the high school-love-story nonsense that dominated their story early on.

The Divas Triple Threat match should be very good given the presence of Lynch and Banks. The real wild cardand determining factorwill be Brie Bella. A spotty worker at times, it will be interesting to see if she is on her game or weighs down the entire bout.

Overall, the show puts the spotlight on midcard stars and Divas whose stories could use a bit more exposure.

That makes the broadcast worth watching, but only if you do not have to go out of your way to do so. The lack of stakes makes watching SmackDown less of a priority.
