Chiefs Rumors Reveal New WR Contract Amid Rashee Rice, Tyquan Thornton Injuries

The Kansas City Chiefs are signing wide receiver Justin Watson to their practice squad, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Tyquan Thornton is out for multiple months after dislocating his ankle, while Rashee Rice is nursing a hamstring injury. That created the need for Kansas City to bolster its receiver depth.

A potential reunion with eight-time Pro Bowler Tyreek Hill has been floated, but his ongoing recovery from a major knee injury could drag into November.

Watson can potentially give the team some immediate relief, and he has experience in an Andy Reid and Eric Bieniemy-led offense. He played for the Chiefs between 2022-24.

During that period, the 6'2" pass-catcher was a solid supplemental piece in the aerial attack. He had 64 receptions for 1,064 yards and seven touchdowns.

According to the Kansas City Star's Pete Sweeney, the Chiefs weren't the only team that had Watson on their radar.

While he's only on the practice squad for now, Kansas City presumably laid out a scenario where he could be promoted to the active roster.
