B/R Experts Week 6 NFL Power Rankings

B/R NFL StaffOct 12, 2026

We're five weeks into the 2026 NFL season, and for everything we know, there are two things we do not.

We know the San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs are good. We know the Miami Dolphins and Tennessee Titans are not good. We know teams such as the Atlanta Falcons and Pittsburgh Steelers fall somewhere in-between.

However, few people predicted the Minnesota Vikings would be one of the three remaining undefeated teams five weeks in. Or that the Los Angeles Chargers would still be searching for their first victory, or that the New York Giants would be in first place in the NFC East.

Never mind that outside the aforementioned Vikings, the entire NFC North would be filled with teams that look awesome one week and awful the next.

It all goes to show that the old axiom "any given Sunday" is as true as ever. And after another wild week of NFL action, Bleacher Report NFL analysts Gary Davenport, Kris Knox, Maurice Moton and Brent Sobleski have come together to comb through the chaos and rank the NFL's 32 teams.

The bookends are the same as a week ago. What's in between, though?

ARI | ATL | BAL | BUF | CAR | CHI | CIN | CLE | DAL | DEN | DET | GB | HOU | IND | JAX | KC | LAC | LAR | LV | MIA | MIN | NE | NYG | NO | NYJ | PHI | PIT | SEA | SF | TB | TEN | WAS

Last Week: 32

Week 5 Result: Lost at Cincinnati 31-24

The story remains the same five weeks into the 2026 NFL campaign. The Miami Dolphins are the NFL's least-talented and worst team.

How bad are they? According to The Ringer's Sheil Kapadia, Miami ranks dead last in offensive success rate for any squad over the last five seasons.

The Dolphins' struggles aren't surprising. Malik Willis is in his first season as a full-time starting quarterback. Miami features the league's worst wide receiver depth. Running back De'Von Achane suffered a season-ending injury. The offensive line isn't playing particularly well, either.

Let's call it what it is: This season is a transition year for the Dolphins. Everything is going according to plan from that perspective. -- Sobleski

Week 5 Result: Lost vs. Houston 26-3

It's any given Sunday in the NFL, but the Tennessee Titans are a basement-dwelling team that hasn't scored more than 20 points in a game this season. It'll be difficult for them to earn their first victory with an ineffective offense.

Rookie wideout Carnell Tate showed signs of development, but the Houston Texans held him to one catch for six yards.

Tennessee's two play-callers, defensive-minded head coach Robert Saleh and offensive coordinator Brian Daboll, will keep searching for answers. -- Moton

Chargers QB Justin Herbert

Last Week: 29

Week 5 Result: Lost vs. Denver 23-17

It's strange to call a season lost in October, but it already feels like the Los Angeles Chargers should be looking toward 2027 and beyond. Justin Herbert has significantly regressed in Mike McDaniel's offense, while Los Angeles' defense has been uncharacteristically mistake-prone for a Jim Harbaugh team.

Unfortunately, injuries are beginning to mount for the second straight season, too.

No NFL team has ever gone from 0-5 and made the playoffs, and Los Angeles sure doesn't look like a squad capable of becoming the first. If the Chargers remain winless entering their Week 7 bye—which is extremely possible with a trip to Kansas City up next—we could see some shake-ups during the off week.

Harbaugh has publicly voiced his support for McDaniel, but it's fair to wonder if L.A. will continue to support Harbaugh if the team continues to stumble. -- Knox

The Arizona Cardinals' new coaching staff turned Marvin Harrison Jr. into an afterthought, then traded him to the Houston Texans. The Cardinals should embrace the role of sellers and trade veterans who aren't part of their long-term plan.

At 1-4, with that one victory over the winless Los Angeles Chargers, the Cardinals should start thinking about what they want their roster to look like for next season. Arizona is going nowhere in 2026. -- Moton

28. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-4)

Week 5 Result: Won at Dallas 24-16

Jalon Daniels opened eyes with his performance Thursday during his first road start in Dallas for a prime-time contest.

After an 0-4 start, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers could have easily gone into cruise control with Baker Mayfield out of the lineup due to injury. Instead, Todd Bowles' squad responded with a resounding victory.

Daniels was particularly impressive. The undrafted rookie showed a level of maturity and play-making ability that validated the coaching staff's decision to anoint him as QB2. Granted, the Cowboys defense remains rudderless and has significant issues.

Even so, Daniels completed 76 percent of his passes and didn't make any major mistakes, which is exactly what a team wants from any backup in that situation, whether they are a rookie or not. -- Sobleski

27. Washington Commanders (1-3-1)

6 of 32
Giants Commanders Football
Commanders QB Jayden Daniels

Last Week: 25

Week 5 Result: Tied vs. New York Giants 27-27

This writer isn't going to say the Commanders should fire head coach Dan Quinn now. That isn't going to save what appears to be another lost season in the nation's capital.

But this year should be his last.

Despite Quinn's defensive background, Washington continues to struggle on that side of the ball. The Commanders were 26th in the league in pass defense entering Week 5, and that number isn't getting any better after Jameis Winston carved them up.

There's also the poor clock management in overtime. Jayden Daniels deserves some blame, but the coaching staff must ensure its quarterback understands the situation and knows he can't go down in bounds.

The Commanders need someone who can develop Daniels.

Quinn is not that guy.   -- Davenport

26. Houston Texans (1-4)

Week 5 Result: Won at Tennessee 26-3

Don't write off the Houston Texans yet. Yes, they should've beaten the winless Tennessee Titans, and no, Marvin Harrison Jr. isn't the savior who'll turn the offense into a juggernaut.

However, if the Texans beat the Jacksonville Jaguars in London this week, they'll be 2-4, like last season before winning 10 of 11 games. It's a tough feat, but Houston did it with mostly the same players from the previous campaign.

It's not time to jump back on the Texans bandwagon, but a win over the division-leading Jaguars could spark a season turnaround. -- Moton

25. New Orleans Saints (1-4)

8 of 32
Saints Football
Saints WR Chris Olave

Last Week: 24

Week 5 Result: Lost vs. Minnesota 23-13

The Saints provided a glimmer of hope late last season with a four-game winning streak. The optimism that once surrounded this roster and its coaching staff quickly evaporated during the team's 1-4 start, including an ongoing three-game losing streak.

The most depressing aspect of the Saints' current situation is how thoroughly the Vikings defense dominated Kellen Moore's offense. New Orleans may have fielded a top-10 offense entering the contest, but the group had no answers against Brian Flores' play-calling. The Saints managed only 142 yards Sunday.

What looked like an ascending team is now on its heels with a need to respond in the coming weeks. However, New Orleans doesn't face another team with a losing record (currently) until the weekend before Christmas. -- Sobleski

24. New York Jets (2-3)

9 of 32
Browns Jets Football
Jets WR Garrett Wilson

Last Week: 26

Week 5 Result: Won vs. Cleveland 17-12

Two wins through five weeks of play nearly equals all of last season's success. The New York Jets are competitive again. Significant talent can be found throughout the roster. However, this year's second overall draft pick, David Bailey, stole the show Sunday against the Cleveland Browns.

Bailey officially announced his NFL arrival with three sacks and four quarterback hits. According to NFL Next Gen Stats, Bailey leads all rookies in pressures (26) and quick pressures (nine) generated.

The Jets have enough young talent and Geno Smith playing well at quarterback to be a difficult opponent for anyone as this season progresses. An above-.500 record isn't out of the equation either. If it doesn't happen, the team has a big offseason ahead of it, with the potential to add significantly more high-level talent, as it did with Bailey. -- Sobleski

23. Indianapolis Colts (2-3)

Colts DT DeForest Buckner

Last Week: 23

Week 5 Result: Lost at Pittsburgh 34-22

The Indianapolis Colts' silver lining in their loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers is that they didn't let wideout DK Metcalf put together a highlight performance after his dismissive comments toward cornerback Sauce Gardner.

Nonetheless, the Colts must sort out their defensive issues, and it goes beyond Gardner allowing a 112.2 passer rating in coverage. The Colts gave up 127 rushing yards to the Steelers, who entered Week 5 with the 22nd-ranked rushing offense.

The Colts are stuck in mediocrity, though they can get back to .500 with a home win over the Tennessee Titans before a two-week road trip against the undefeated Minnesota Vikings and AFC South-leading Jacksonville Jaguars. -- Moton

22. Dallas Cowboys (2-3)

11 of 32
Buccaneers Cowboys Football
Cowboys S Caleb Downs

Last Week: 16

Week 5 Result: Lost vs. Tampa Bay 24-16

The Cowboys' expected defensive improvement has yet to materialize, and the unit again threatens to derail their season.

Playing against a winless Tampa Bay Buccaneers team starting an undrafted rookie at quarterback, Dallas gave up 419 total yards and over 240 yards on the ground.

The Cowboys knew exactly what Tampa Bay was going to do—and there was nothing they could do to stop it.

Once again, Dallas is at the bottom of the league in total defense. They can't stop the run, allowing almost 170 yards per game. The pass defense is better, but still below average.

Joey Porter Jr. isn't going to fix things and neither will another trade.

The more things change in Dallas, the more they stay the same. -- Davenport

21. Atlanta Falcons (2-3)

Last Week: 21

Week 5 Result: Lost vs. Baltimore 30-23

Just when the Atlanta Falcons looked like they were getting on track and had an answer at the game's most important position, Michael Penix Jr. suffered another injury and couldn't finish Sunday's contest against the Baltimore Ravens.

The severity of Penix's injury is not yet known, though he will get imaging on a rib this week.

Considering Penix's history, another injury has to be demoralizing, even if it's not a major problem. He's now suffered three ACL tears and had surgery on both of his shoulders. Repeated injuries have interrupted his development and created uncertainty at quarterback.

The Falcons have too much talent to be constantly worrying whether their projected starter is going to be in the lineup. Tua Tagovailoa didn't help his case by throwing an interception to end overtime and hand the Ravens a victory. -- Sobleski

20. Philadelphia Eagles (2-3)

13 of 32
Eagles Jaguars Football
Eagles QB Jalen Hurts

Last Week: 13

Week 5 Result: Lost vs. Jacksonville 19-17 (London)

The Philadelphia Eagles are no strangers to adversity. The team is battle-tested. But the Eagles are also in trouble.

Philly's offense was already struggling to move the ball consistently before running back Saquon Barkley and wide receiver DeVonta Smith went down and the team lost two starters on the offensive line. That offense now is stagnant.

The defense has issues as well. Defensive tackle Jalen Carter was a force in London, but the Eagles aren't generating pressure off the edge. Philadelphia has been ahead late in each of the last two games and still lost them both.

Philly now has a two-game homestand to try to right the ship, but next week's visit from the Carolina Panthers is no gimme.

A loss that drops Philadelphia to 2-4 would only intensify scrutiny from fans and local media. -- Davenport

19. New York Giants (3-1-1)

14 of 32
Titans Giants Football
Giants LB Arvell Reese

Last Week: 19

Week 5 Result: Tied at Washington 27-27 (OT)

On one hand, the New York Giants have just one fewer win than they did all of last season after just five weeks. Not only are the G-Men in first place, but they also lead the Eagles and Cowboys by one game in the NFC East.

However, the Giants were also down two scores to a one-win Commanders team before engineering a furious comeback. Big Blue turned the ball over twice, including a backbreaking fumble in overtime when they were in field-goal range.

Had Washington managed the clock better in overtime, the Giants could have fallen to 3-2.

The reality is that the one good team the Giants played this year blew them out. But the scheduling reality is that New York doesn't play another good team until they face the Jaguars on November 22.

Is this a playoff-caliber team? Probably not. Could it make the postseason anyway? Oh, yeah. -- Davenport

18. Las Vegas Raiders (3-2)

Last Week: 10

Week 5 Result: Lost at New England 45-17

Even after consecutive losses, the Las Vegas Raiders are sitting at 3-2. Most Raiders fans would have taken that sort of start to the season, given the option to do so in August. However, things feel a lot different after a blowout loss to the New England Patriots than they felt following last week's close loss to the rival Chiefs.

Playing across the country with a less-than-100-percent Ashton Jeanty certainly didn't help Las Vegas. However, the Raiders' defense looked legitimately bad for the first time this season, and the lack of wide-receiver depth was glaring as Las Vegas tried to keep pace with Drake Maye and Co.

Fernando Mendoza made his 2026 debut after the game got out of hand on Sunday. While Kirk Cousins wasn't benched for performance reasons, calls for Mendoza will intensify if Las Vegas has many more team performances like the one it had in Week 5. -- Knox

Week 5 Result: Lost at New York Jets 17-12

The Cleveland Browns are who we thought they were a few weeks ago.

To their credit, they briefly held the lead in the fourth quarter Sunday. The defense is keeping the team in games week after week, but the offense remains a major weakness.

Facing a Jets defense that the Chicago Bears dominated a week ago, the Browns did next to nothing. Bad weather or not, Cleveland managed just 198 yards of offense. There were no running lanes. Deshaun Watson was dropped a whopping eight times.

After three straight wins, the Browns delivered an ugly, mistake-filled performance. Next week's AFC North matchup against the Baltimore Ravens may not be a must-win, but Cleveland needs a strong response to bolster its credibility as a contender in 2026. – Davenport

Week 5 Result: Won at Arizona 45-21

It's hard to decipher just how good the Detroit Lions can be, even if we know exactly what sort of team they are.

Detroit's offense can look like the league's best when everything is clicking, but its defense is one of the league's worst by just about every metric. The defense did enough against the one-win Cardinals for the Lions to comfortably cruise to 3-2. However, Detroit has to find defensive answers during next week's bye if it hopes to match points with the Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings in its next two games.

15. Cincinnati Bengals (3-2)

Last Week: 17

Week 5 Result: Won vs. Miami 31-24

The NFL is a results-driven business. And in that regard it was mission accomplished for the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 5—after dropping two straight the team got back on track in the Queen City.

However, even in victory there was cause for concern—on both sides of the ball.

Offensively, the Bengals had 117 yards on the ground, but it took 31 carries to get there. However, that 117 yards was over 40 yards above their season average, and Cincy may have found something in getting Samaje Perine more involved on the ground.

Defensively, Cincinnati's new-look unit has looked more like last year's squad—and that ain't a compliment. Allowing 24 points to a sputtering offense that was averaging a league-low 11.5 points per game is not a good look.

The Bengals are no doubt glad to be 3-2. But there are things to work on over the bye week. – Davenport

Just when the Steelers appeared to be fading, they came roaring back.

Granted, the Indianapolis Colts are a flawed team. But one week after an uneven outing in Cleveland, the Steelers took care of business, riding an efficient game from quarterback Aaron Rodgers and 188 total yards and two scores from running back Jaylen Warren to their third victory of the season.

The thing is, the Steelers have a chance to build some momentum here. The next two weeks feature winnable matchups with the 1-4 New Orleans Saints and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. That could set Pittsburgh up at a solid 5-2 when the Browns come calling in Week 8.

Last Week: 15

Week 5 Result: Bye Week

The Carolina Panthers didn't need to do a thing this past weekend to move into sole possession of first place in the NFC South.

Currently, Carolina is the only team in the division without a losing record. Plus, the Panthers' next two opponents currently own losing records, with two weeks to specifically prepare for the Philadelphia Eagles.

As always, the bye week provides an opportunity for a roster to get healthy.

Carolina could receive significant boosts with defensive end Jaelan Phillips, rookie right tackle Monroe Freeling, guard Damien Lewis and wide receiver Jalen Coker likely back after being dinged in recent weeks. Veteran right tackle Taylor Moton and defensive lineman Tershawn Wharton may be taken off injured reserve as well. -- Sobleski

Week 5 Result: Won vs. Chicago 31-7

The Green Bay Packers did not look particularly good in the first month of the season. They scraped by the New York Jets and Tampa Bay Buccaneers but largely looked average during their 2-2 start. However, Green Bay looked like an actual playoff threat during Sunday's win over the rival Chicago Bears.

The Packers' defense still has issues, especially up front, and Green Bay desperately needs to find a way to improve its rushing attack. Yet, the Packers can still be difficult to stop when Jordan Love, Christian Watson, and the passing attack get to clicking.

Love repeatedly dissected the Bears' secondary in Week 5, and he'll have a chance to keep cutting through defenses with the Dallas Cowboys, Detroit Lions, and Carolina Panthers on tap. -- Knox

The Chicago Bears looked like one of the NFC's top contenders in the first month of the season, but Sunday's blowout loss should serve as a wake-up call.

The Bears' defense played extremely well in Weeks 2-4, but it returned to the poor form we saw in Week 1. Playing without quarterback Caleb Williams and running back Kyle Monangai, Chicago had little hope of keeping pace once Green Bay's passing attack got going.

It now feels like those good performances against the Carolina Panthers, Philadelphia Eagles, and New York Jets may have been a mirage.

The Bears need Williams back behind center, and they need their offense to meet Ben Johnson's preseason expectations if Chicago is going to win consistently against playoff-caliber teams. -- Knox

After a slow start to Monday night's game, the Los Angeles Rams and Buffalo Bills picked up the pace in the second half, trading scoring drives late in the third quarter and into overtime.

In the extra period, linebacker Nate Landman forced a fumble that gave the Rams a chance to win, but the Bills blocked the field goal.

Ultimately, the Rams couldn't stop Josh Allen from icing the game with a couple of big runs for first downs, and the Bills kicked the game-winning field goal. It's a gut-wrenching loss for Los Angeles. The NFL's 2026 dream team falls back under .500, taking a hit in the power rankings. -- Moton

Week 5 Result: Won vs. Las Vegas 45-17

After a suspect start to the season, the New England Patriots have found their way and again look like the team that represented the AFC in last season's Super Bowl.

A win against the Buffalo Bills proved an impressive turnaround after being trounced by the Jacksonville Jaguars. A letdown could have occurred after an important win over a division rival. Instead, the Patriots responded with a dominant victory over the Las Vegas Raiders.

Drake Maye's about-face after a horrific start to the campaign shows how resilient the 24-year-old quarterback is. The third-year signal-caller established new season highs Sunday with 374 passing yards and four touchdown passes. Wins can make a lot of problems seem trivial, but the Denver Broncos' offensive issues may not simply go away. Head coach Sean Payton took back play-calling duties from coordinator Davis Webb ahead of Week 5, but the results were largely the same.

Fortunately, in Sunday's win over the rival Chargers, Denver's defense looked a lot more like the top-tier unit the Broncos fielded in 2025. It repeatedly kept points off the board, generated sacks, and forced turnovers that put the offense in scoring position.

If the Broncos' defense can build on what it accomplished in Week 5, it will give Denver chances to stack wins. However, the offense has to start finding answers soon. The 224 total yards it compiled on Sunday were the fewest the Chargers have surrendered all season.

Both units will be heavily tested on Thursday night when the Seattle Seahawks come to town. -- Knox

Week 5 Result: Won at Atlanta 30-23 (OT)

Good teams find a way to overcome adversity and win when not at their best. The Ravens did the first in beating a hot Falcons team on the road Sunday. But in some ways they were at their best in doing so.

With two-time MVP quarterback Lamar Jackson on the shelf with an injured ankle, Baltimore played Ravens football, gouging the league's best run defense entering Week 5 for 208 yards. But when backup quarterback Tyler Huntley had to make plays, "Snoop" was on the case—over 200 passing yards, two touchdowns, another score on the ground and a passer rating of 111.6. He also led Baltimore on a two-minute drive to force overtime.

At 4-1, the Ravens are a game clear of the rest of the AFC North. And while Baltimore would no doubt like Jackson back out there against the Browns in Week 6, the Ravens just showed that they can win without him. – Davenport

Also, the Seahawks running backs must hold onto the ball. Emanuel Wilson and George Holani fumbled, and the San Francisco 49ers scored touchdowns off both turnovers.

The Jacksonville Jaguars pulled off a late win, though Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni took the blame.

Quietly, the Jags are one of the league's best, and we have taken note, ranking them within our top five.

They are a rock-solid squad that plays complementary football, and they don't beat themselves, which is a hallmark of well-coached teams. This season, Jacksonville has turned the ball over just three times while recording eight takeaways.

The Jaguars are also one of the league's best red-zone operations on offense and defense; they finish drives with six points and keep teams out of their end zone. Aside from Brian Thomas Jr.'s disappearing act, there's little to criticize about the Jaguars. -- Moton

Week 5 Result: Won at Los Angeles Rams 37-34 (OT)

A heavyweight fight was expected when the last two NFL MVPs took the field Monday, and it came to be. The Buffalo Bills' Josh Allen and Los Angeles Rams' Matthew Stafford landed multiple haymakers. Ultimately, the former left the contest with a victory, though the outcome didn't center on Allen.

Instead, James Cook coughed up the ball in overtime and allowed the Rams to take possession and attempt a game-winning field goal--which Greg Rousseau blocked. Cook lost two fumbles during the contest. The irony is the Bills didn't lean on their quarterback as much as they normally do. Instead, Cook finished the game with more carries than Allen attempted passes. However, the quarterback led the team with 121 rushing yards.

Buffalo bounced back after a tough loss to the rival New England Patriots. Joe Brady and his team now plan to stay on the West Coast, with the Las Vegas Raiders next on the docket. This past offseason, the 49ers signed Mike Evans, who hasn't aged past his prime. The Seattle Seahawks pass defense gave up the fewest yards entering Week 5, yet it couldn't stop the 33-year-old, who caught seven passes for 113 yards and a touchdown.

Deebo Samuel Sr. suffered a hamstring injury in the second half. So, the 49ers may need to bring in reinforcements at receiver. Despite the cluster of injuries at that position, they're the best team in the NFL. -- Moton
