New NHL Rumors on Rangers Exploring Goalie Trade Market After Igor Shesterkin Injury
The New York Rangers are expected to search for a goaltender on the trade market following Igor Shesterkin's apparent leg injury, according to ESPN's Emily Kaplan.
Per Kaplan, Jonathan Quick coming out of retirement and returning to the Rangers is also a possibility. Quick now serves as New York's director of goaltending development after appearing in 25 games last season.
Shesterkin was ruled out for the remainder of the Rangers' 2026-27 campaign due to an injury that occurred during a matchup with the Washington Capitals on Friday.

In the second period, Shesterkin briefly came out of his crease to challenge a shooter before jamming his right skate into the right post as he slid back into the crease. He was eventually helped off the ice without putting any weight on his leg.
Shesterkin's injury is a tough blow to New York's playoff hopes, as the 2022 Vezina Trophy winner owns a a .917 save percentage throughout his career.
He also opened his 2026-27 campaign with a .927 save percentage in five appearances, while the Rangers posted a 4-2-0 record.
Dylan Garand replaced Shesterkin and finished with 11 saves on 12 shots against the Capitals, but New York appears to be on the lookout for an external addition instead of solely relying on the 24-year-old to step up.
After all, backup goalie Joonas Korpisalo is also dealing with a lower body injury.
While the Rangers have plenty of time until the March 1 trade deadline, it isn't difficult to imagine a potential swap occurring in the near future as they look to end a brief two-year playoff drought.
